The To Do Application: Pt 2: The Screens

I will now continue discussing the screens and menus of the To do Application.
The various screens of the To Do Application

The List view of the To Do application showing the Priority number, the Category, the item as well as the Due date. If a note is attached, the yellow icon is displayed beside the entry

Preferences screen of the To Do application. Indicate what is displayed in the List view. Check or uncheck your preferences.

The pop up drop down menu options of how the To Do listing is sorted and displayed.

The Record Menu: Delete Item, Attach Note, Delete Note, Purge, Beam Item, Send Item, Beam Category, Send Category

The Options Menu: Font, Phone Lookup Security, About To Do List
In conclusion, although I originally thought that the To Do application was a great program, I found some faults with it. It wasn’t integrated with the Date Book application, which, had it been, would have made this application much more useful. Being a standalone application, its entries weren’t showing up in the Date Book application, unless you were viewing the split screen that shows the Date Book and To Do application. In order to effectively use the To Do application, you would need to refer to it often so that you keep track of your tasks. Not only do you need to remember to check your Date Book, but also need to check your To Do’s. that seems redundant. Everytime you need to create a Task, you open up the To Do application and enter it. When you’re done, you open it up and check it off. The program doesn’t automatically delete items that are “checked off”. You either go into the Record Menu and select Purge and have all checked off items purged, or you simply delete the entry yourself. This was the reason why I didn’t use the To Do application much after I tried it a few times.
Instead, I have found a third party Date Book application called Datebk5, which is packed with lots of features. I can create an appointment, a To Do, Journal, etc and it is integrated with the Memo Pad application and allows linking to various other applications. This is one program that can achieve a lot of things. Agendus, another third party Date Book application also achieves similar functions. But, this posting is not about Datebk5, which I will discuss in a future posting.
I have tried Pocket Quicken at one point but eventually got rid of it because I didn’t like how I wasn’t able to track my stocks’ gains and losses. Also, I felt that I didn’t really need to have a Quicken application with me everywhere. I ended up putting my stock info in my Docs To Go spreadsheet application, Sheets To Go, which I love, as I can use it for virtually any database or calculation data. You may or may not agree with me.
The To Do application, is a good start to help a new Palm user to get used to becoming better organized. But, as I’ve mentioned, this application can seem redundant. Rather than using this application, you can easily put the tasks/to do’s in the Date Book application without an alarm, but you would need to move it to the current day to keep it showing up in your Date Book day view. Even doing this is probably easier than going back and forth to the To Do application to create and delete entries. By putting it in the Date Book, you have only one place where everything is put so there’s less chance of forgetting to check this or that. But, still, the To Do program is a good start for a beginning Palm user to get used to organizing tasks. Eventually, he/she will want something else to replace it.
