Screenshots of the Hotsync Application
Here’s some screenshots of the Hotsync application to provide you with the various menu options available.

The Options menu: Modem Sync Prefs, LAN Sync Prefs, Primary PC Setup, Conduit Setup, Connection Setup, About Hotsync

Modem Sync Preferences screen
Select from Network or Direct to Modem

LANSync Preferences screen
Select from LANSync or Local Hotsync

Primary PC Setup screen
Shows the details of Primary PC name, Primary PC (ip) address, and Subnet Mask (optional).

Conduit Setup screen
This screen shows all the applications that are installed on the Palm that will be synchronized with the computer. Sometimes, if there are problems during Hotsync with any one of the programs, unchecking them in this screen will temporarily allow to synchronize everything else until you diagnose and correct a problem.

Connection Preferences setup screen
This screen will come up showing the available connections after tapping on the Connection setup in the Options menu. You can create, delete or edit a connection.

Drop down menu of the Local connection: Cradle/Cable, IR to a PC/Handheld
Most Palm users hotsync via the cradle or cable. The other selection is via infrared connection.

The drop down menu of the various Modem Connections available: Palm Modem US/Canada, Palm Modem UK, IBM Workpad Modem, USB Modem

The phone setup screen
This is the screen where you enter details for a dial up account (eg. AOL, your local ISP dial up provider, etc).
The Hotsync application is at most times, overlooked as an application even though it serves one of the most important functions of the Palm: the ability to transfer and synchronize data between the Palm and computer, whether it be your home computer or work computer, or both. Many Palm users hotsync their Palm to both their home and work computer to keep both computers updated with information obtained from the Palm, making the Palm, almost a liason between them. You transport some of your work data to your Palm and load it onto your home computer. Do some work on that and load it back up on the Palm before it gets synchronized with the work computer and the cycle continues.
It is an important part of the Palm routine to consistently keep the data updated and synchronized so that updated information can be loaded on both the computer and the Palm so that you are working with the latest information at all times.
As well, installing applications to the Palm usually requires that they be done via Hotsync, although there are other ways to do so as I’ve discussed in part 2

Hi,
arent there problems when deleting a record if you use two computers?
Anyways, I always have to clear out the PC Name on my Palm Tungsten T3 if I want to do network hotsync, because it doesnt find my PC otherwise.
It looks as if it tries to DNS lookup the machine name, and gives up even if you give it an IP! When it connects, it writes in the name again, so go to top…
Best regards
Tam Hanna

I’m sorry. I only own one Palm and although I have a network at home, don’t hotsync with different computers on the network. So, I don’t really know the answer to your problem.
You may find some helpful info from Palm’s support page for Hotsync, especially at bottom, under Troubleshooting: Network Hotsync. This kb solution #5570 may be helpful. As well as this old article from Palm Power may have some info. Sorry I can’t be of much help.

Oops. Forgot to post the link to Palm’s hotsync support. Here it is. As well, I find that Brighthand’s forums and 1src (I notice you pop in often) can provide lots of help. But I’m sure you know your way to sources on the web.
