Online Rss Feed Readers Continued

(Last edited March 8, 2008)

Well, thank goodness. The Bloglines downtime was short lived. But during the downtime, I was looking into a few online rss feed readers that I thought may be similar to Bloglines.

Okay. There has to be a few things that the reader MUST have for me to like it. Of course, that means, it has to be quite similar to what Bloglines does.

First, it MUST allow me to view a whole list of feeds on one frame, similar to what Bloglines does. I absolutely HATE having to click on every posting to view it. Since I subscribe to over 500 feeds (correct me, it’s now over 1000+) with each most likely having about 5 - 10 postings, that would be close to 2500 clicks to view them. Uh. No thanks. In Bloglines, I can easily click on the specific folder and view all the unread items all in one frame. I simply have to scroll down to view everything.

Second, it MUST be FREE. If I can use Bloglines for free, why should I have to pay for something similar, especially if it’s an online feed reader?

Third, it MUST allow me to import or export the feeds. This is important so that if I ever feel I want to use something else, I can easily keep my subsciption and import it elsewhere.

Although in my previous posting, I mentioned Gritwire, I found that Rojo offers something similar to what I like. I will have to see whether Rojo will be my alternative online news reader when Bloglines goes down.

(EDIT. March 8, 2008). After so many years, I’m still using Bloglines probably because I have tried so many different news readers and still prefer what Bloglines offers that others fail. Some may offer some of what Bloglines offers but none have been able to replace Bloglines in my opinion. So, it’s Bloglines. I have tried the beta version and didn’t like it so I hope they don’t force everyone to use the new interface.
