I will start a new series of postings that I hope will help Palm newbies quickly learn how to do something or tips or tricks that can be a short post. These will not have a set schedule and will likely be posted sometime during the week, depending on my schedule and work load.

I’ve decided to call them the “How to” series that mainly shows via Flash simulations on how to do something. Most of them will likely be basic tasks but when it comes to newbies, they may not know how to do it and probably don’t have the time to read the manual or look it up. So, this series is meant to make it a quick reference and tutorial and focuses on one task.

I will start with something that I was struggling with when I first got my Zire 71 in October 2003. When I first got the Palm turned on, I was a bit annoyed that the week started on a Monday. Having it that way was very confusing since I’ve been brought up with the old calendars that started on a Sunday. I didn’t know how to get it to start on Sunday, or whether that is an option that I can set. Well, there is an option to set the week to start on either a Monday or Sunday. And I will show you how.

Simulation to set week to start Monday or Sunday

The simulation will play through to the end unless I’ve inserted a pop up note to explain specific points.

To continue playing the simulation, press the or button.
To go back to a previous paused segment, click on the or button.
To pause the simulation at any time, press the button. To continue after it’s paused, press the button again.

To scroll forward or backward in the simulation, click anywhere on the left (to go back earlier in the simulation), or right (to go forward in the simulation) on the progress bar.

PLEASE NOTE THAT MANY FREE HOST SERVERS MAY HAVE POP UP ADS. PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU DISABLE POP UPS BEFORE CLICKING ON THE FLASH LINKS

I hope you enjoy this new series. If you have any suggestions on what you’d like me to focus on the “How to” quick tips series, please drop me a line.
