This is a re-visit of Binary Clock, which I’ve previously discussed in this posting. So rather than re-writing about how the clock works and how to “read” or “decipher” it, please refer to the original Binary Clock posting first a more detailed posting and simulations of the program.
Instead, this posting will provide more of an overview of the program. The recently released version 2.0 of Binary Clock looks great. As far as I can see (and I have been known to be wrong), the clock is very similar to the previous version, but it looks better as you can now customize and view truetype fonts using Font Bucket (included in the zip file). You can also import other Windows fonts into Binary Clock so you’re not limited by what’s provided. The Series 60 text display looks very cool as it now toggles and show a different color and position on the screen each second. This was already available in the previous version but it still looks very nice regardless.
This first simulation will go through the pop up hints and show the alarm clock
The second simulation will go through the various customizations of the geometry which allows you to change the shape of the blocks or bubbles
The third simulation will go through the colors setting of the foreground and background as well as the text formatting.
The last simulation will focus on the fonts. I have installed the Font Bucket and will go through all the different font styles you can choose amongst for the text. Brace yourselves, there’s a lot of fonts to go through!
I was a bit disappointed that the new version still doesn’t support more than one alarm, which could make it more versatile but I guess the font capability is already quite of an upgrade for the application.
If you haven’t tried out Binary Clock, I’d suggest you do and then start showing it off to your friends, (especially your geek friends) and impress them with your ability to tell the time from this interesting continuously changing arrangement of blocks or bubbles.
