Since the Treo 650 is very much a cell phone as well as a PDA, you would think that the ability to find and display the lifetimer on the Treo should be available. And, yes, you are able to find the lifetimer on the Treo.

What is a lifetimer? Well, as the name implies, it’s a timer in minutes over the life of the cell phone. Your lifetimer will increase over the life of the cell phone and the higher the number, the more its usage, and the less your cell phone will be worth, very much like the odometer measures the usage of a car in distance of miles of kilometers. And yes, it is possible for some unscrupulous sellers to reset the lifetimer just like it can be done on a car. But, being able to view a lifetimer can still be useful.

With that in mind, if you are curious about your Treo’s lifetimer, here’s how to look it up

  • Go into your Phone Application.
  • Dial the “hash code” for your Treo:
    • For GSM Treos, dial #*786
    • For CDMA Treos, dial ##786
    • For Verizon Treos, dial #*#786

Here’s a simulation to show you exactly what to do on a GSM Treo.

Lifetimer Simulation

Now that you know this little trick, go ahead and check your Treo and show it off to your friends. Impress someone the next time you go to a cell phone store and display the lifetimer of their “store” unit ;) .
