The new Contacts application (formerly the Address Book application in previous Palm models) offers some hidden capabilities that you may not be aware of. You are now no longer limited to inputting only one address entry for each contact. You can have up to three different address entries for each contact, meaning you can add two extra addresses for the same Contact. For telephone numbers, you can add an additional two telephone numbers, bringing the total phone numbers available to be seven (provided you include the e-mail field which is part of the phone number field). There’s an extra IM (instant messenger) field you can add, bringing that up to two. Lastly, you can add an additional five extra “Custom Fields” bringing the total Custom Fields available to be nine.
So, for each Contact, you can now have up to:
- 3 address book entries (Home, Office, Work)
- 2 IM (instant manager) entries (AIM, MSN, Yahoo, AOL ICQ, IM)
- 7 telephone entries (Work, Home, Fax, Other, E-mail, Main, Pager, Mobile)
- 9 Custom Fields (Custom 1, Custom 2, …, Custom 9)
Wow! That’s quite a lot of extra fields for one Contact, rather the older Address Book application which limited only five phone number fields, one address, and four custom fields. No longer are you going to be struggling with inputting one contact as separate entries but can now put them all together in one neat entry.
Simulation of how to add additional address and other fields in Contacts
The simulation will play through to the end unless I’ve inserted a pop up note to explain specific points.
To continue playing the simulation, press the
or
button.
To go back to a previous paused segment, click on the
or
button.
To pause the simulation at any time, press the
button. To continue after it’s paused, press the button again.
To scroll forward or backward in the simulation, click anywhere on the left (to go back earlier in the simulation), or right (to go forward in the simulation) on
the progress bar.

So, if you weren’t aware that you can have all those extra fields available, well, you do now. Go ahead and take advantage to put all those extra fields that you were probably hoping to add to the Contact because you can add them in now. I hope that you’ve enjoyed reading and watching this posting today.
