The latest issue of Audible’s Ear to the Ground with Corey Thrasher is now out. Seems like a long time since the last edition. Anyway, it’s now out. Again, it’s a free download just like a lot of other Audible original content.

Agatha Christie Podcast

Program Format: Abridged
The Audio Partners Publishing Corp., 2006
23 min.

Publisher’s Summary

Ask anyone today “Who is the world’s best-selling fiction writer?”, and you’re likely to hear “J.K. Rowling” or “Dan Brown”. But check the Guinness Book of World Records, and you’ll find that the honor belongs to Agatha Christie, whose 78 mysteries have sold an estimated two billion copies in more than 45 languages, and have added two iconic investigators to our culture: Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. In addition to her books, Christie wrote 19 plays, one of which, The Mousetrap, has been in continuous production in London for 54 years, yet another world record. She was also named Best Writer of the 20th Century at the Bouchercon World Mystery Convention.

Agatha Christie was born on September 15, 1890, in Torquay, Devonshire, England. The youngest of three, she was educated at home and encouraged to read and write, and was also trained in the fine arts of dance, piano and cooking. In 1914 she married Colonel Archibald Christie, who was an officer in the Royal Air Corps. Their only child, Rosalind, was born in 1919.

During the First World War, Agatha Christie served as a Red Cross volunteer at a hospital in Torquay. She began as a nurse, then worked as an assistant in the dispensary, or pharmacy, for two years. It was at this time that she began writing. Her sister Madge had once challenged her to write a detective story, and, surrounded by the poisons on the dispensary shelves, Christie found inspiration for a murder mystery. She began with what became her best-known character, Hercule Poirot, a retired Belgian police officer.

For more information on the Audible program and services, please check out my review on Audible here.

Also, don’t forget to check out This is Audible (free bi-weekly Audible file) that discusses audio books with interviews, clips and discussions related to audio books and entertainment. They come out every Tuesday and Friday of each week.

There’s also Harry Shearer’s Le Show (another free file) that discusses the politics and news of the past week. I don’t particularly care about his skits but do enjoy his perspective on politics and makes for interesting listening.
