First of all, a HUGE THANKS to Wing Yew of Boxwave for providing me with the products for review, without which, this review could not have been possible.
I have never bought a skin or silicon type case so I wasn’t sure what to expect with the Boxwave FlexiSkin case. I got the opportunity to check out Boxwave FlexiSkin case with belt clip. Since many vendors offer a similar silicon, rubbery and stretchy type case, I was more interested in the one with the belt clip since most of them do not offer it so I requested to review this particular case.

And of course, thanks to everyone who has previously purchased software and products with my affiliate links!
The shipment came actually less than a week. Normally, it takes about a week for the products to arrive after they’ve been shipped. In this case, it surprised me as I was expecting it about at least two days later. Imagine my surprise to find the shipment from Boxwave a few days earlier! Woohoo!
The FlexiSkin case with belt clip for the Treo 650 that I’m reviewing is in Coral Pink. It is available in the following colors: Future Blue, Frosted Clear, Smoke Grey, Aluminum Grey, and Coral Pink (the one I’m reviewing).

The skin is made out of “silicon and some proprietary materials” (quoted from Wing Yew of Boxwave). It’s very nice and smooth to the touch, yet provides enough of a grip so that the Palm or Treo, in my case (pardon the pun) will fit snugly inside. The FlexiSkin provides a thick protection against most scrapes and bumps all the while also provides a much easier to manage covering for the Treo so that it’s not that easy let your Treo slip out of your hand. Think of it more like a wet suit for the Treo that is rubbery like in material but stretchy enough to manoeuver it in. There are cut outs in the material to allow easy access to your Treo. There are cut outs for the screen, QWERTY keys, LED light indicator, camera, mirror, speaker, stylus, microphone, and for the top and bottom ports and connectors.
Upon closer examination, the area where the FlexiSkin covers over the hardware buttons, the case actually has raised areas in the exact shape of the hardware button s. When these case “buttons” are lined up with the underlying Treo hardware buttons, you can easily be able to know and press on the hardware buttons simply by “feeling” the buttons on the case and making the appropriate presses.
The closest description of the feel of the FlexiSkin material that I can think of is a newly opened bar of soap. Much like a bar of soap, the FlexiSkin is smooth to the touch and offers that soft, supple, rubbery feeling. Or, if you’ve ever touched the synthetic skin of a doll, it feels very similar. Actually with the pink color of the Flexiskin, I could almost think of it as a bar of soap.
With the rubbery silicon material, the FlexiSkin does a great job of gripping and holding the Treo, although it’s still smooth enough to slide and glide, especially if you need to adjust the skin over the keys, or for removal. Someone has mentioned that putting a bit of baby or talcum powder may help allow the Treo to slide easier. I’ve tried that and it’s a great tip!
The silicon material does somewhat attract dust and hair, but normally, it’s not too hard to remove. Again, using baby powder helps in this department. Of course, don’t put on too much or you’ll lose the “gripping” feature of such a case. That’s why we got the case in the first place, isn’t it?
It’s quite flexible and durable and keeps it shape very well. Of course, I would never attempt to test how flexible it is but as long as you’re careful at the bottom when sliding the Treo or Palm in and out that it should last for quite a while.
The case includes a wrist and neck strap with a quick release clip. Loop one end of the strap to the FlexiSkin case and clasp the other strap to it and you’ve got an extra way to hold or carry your Treo.
The case I am reviewing also comes with a removable belt clip. There is the option of the FlexiSkin case without the belt clip so keep that in mind when reading and watching my review. The clip is not like the usual swivel type where gravity will pull the case so that it will always be in a vertical position. The clip will somewhat stay at the position it is in. If you have the FlexiSkin in a lateral or horizontal position, it will stay that way. But of course, if you move it, it will change position. Depending on your preference, this may be something that you may or may not like about the clip. One thing I do like about this belt clip is that the screw is fixed and stuck to the case, unlike many others where you screw the screw on. With the screw firmly fixed, there’s a lesser chance that it will “unscrew” itself and cause needless accidental drops (that I’ve experienced with many belt clips).
Of course, with a belt clip, the case now no longer can lie perfectly flat on a flat surface like a table, since the screw in the back will stick out. But, if you have the clip clipped on, the case will lie a lot better since the belt clip has a flat surface at the back. Again, if you don’t get the belt clip, this will not be an issue.

As I’ve mentioned already, this is a very nice case with a belt clip. Again, you can choose the case without the belt clip if you like. Having the belt clip is handy for those people like me who always wants it “on me” so that I have less of a chance of putting it down somewhere and easily forget it. Of course, with the clip, it may not be as nice to put down on a table especially if the belt clip is removed since the screw at the back sticks out.
The case’s material is very smooth, flexible and nice to the touch. Having the extra strap can be handy as well. If you don’t like hard cases and want to still protect your palm and yet still be able to get a better “grip” on your Palm or Treo device without sticking on some adhesive grips, the Boxwave FlexiSkin (with or without the belt clip) may be the case for you. They offer this case for a variety of mobile devices including cellphones, mp3 players, digital cameras, GPS, gaming consoles. You can also send a request to Boxwave to support your particular device. Wow. That’s great!
