Another BIG THANKS to Wing Yew of Boxwave for providing the case for this review, which without it, would not have been possible.

Here’s another holster clip case for the Treo that’s a bit different from others. The Boxwave Holster clip is somewhat like most other holster clips with one exception. This clip allows you to adjust how the Treo is held in nine various positions. If you like having the Treo held vertically, you can do so. Or, if you like the Treo held horizontally or laterally, or even somewhere in between, you can do so too. Depending on where you have the Treo with the holster clipped, you may prefer to have the antenna pointing in one direction or the other. No problem. Just adjust the clip so that your Treo is held in the way you want it and clip it onto your belt. Wow! That’s a great idea!

Treo with Boxwave Holster Clip

One of the things I like about having a case with a clip is that I can “clip” the Treo or Palm to anything. It can be a shirt pocket, pants, belt, t-shirt collar (yes, I’ve done that), rolled up sleeve, and practically anything. And it’s still “on” me so that I have much less of a chance of leaving it somewhere and forgetting about it. That’s why I love clip cases. With the Boxwave Holster clip, I can also now be able to clip the Treo at an angle if I choose to, or horizontally/laterally (which I normally prefer), or vertically. The clip has nine various locking positions to choose from so, if you wanted to clip your Treo to your Blazer’s lapel, you can do so since the case allows you to clip at an angle. Cool! But not that most of us would want to do that though. Just making a point.

Features of the Boxwave Holster clip (from Boxwave’s site:

  • Locks handheld securely into place
  • Includes a durable, versatile, and rotating swivel clip that locks in place at nine angles

I Liked:
  • nine locking positions for clip
  • secures smartphones very well
  • front facing enables access to screen

I Didn’t Like:

  • non silicon coated
  • would prefer clip spring stronger

Here are my observations:

I love the nine various locking positions of the clip, which is pretty much the main selling point for me because I can now clip my Treo in the way I want. I would have preferred if the case had a silicon type coating that some other competitor’s holster case has as it can make the case feel nicer and provide somewhat of a better grip but it’s not that important. The case isn’t slippery, but had it come with a silicon coating, it may enhance the case in terms of providing a better grip. As well, it make the case look nicer. The clip at the back does clip well, but I would prefer that the spring on the clip be tighter and stronger so that it will clip and grip harder to a belt or pants better. I like having the Treo front facing so that I can still access the screen when clipped on my pants. However, that also means that it’s more likely to get scratches, bumps, etc. After saying that, there’s nothing wrong with the clip, it’s just my preference as most times, I wear thin pants and would prefer a stronger gripping clip.

Overall, the Boxwave Holster Clip case is a very nice, lightweight, stylish looking holster, mount-like type of case that clips easily to your belt or pants. Releasing the clip is as simple as pressing on the clip at the back of the case and pulling it away. Removing the Palm device from the case is as simple as pushing at the top tab of the case and pulling the Treo up and outwards. Putting it back is the exact opposite. Slide the Treo into the case so that the edges and side holders wrap around your Treo. With the Treo in place, pull the top tab of the case towards you so that it snaps into place and your Treo is secured.

I highly recommend this case if you want something that is lightweight, and out of the way, yet provides you easy access to the Treo while clipped to your belt and doesn’t “cover” up your Treo so when you’re using it, you still hold the Treo without anything sticking or wrapping around it.
