A quick BIG THANKS to StylusCentral for providing the 2-in-1 stylus pen for review.

If you’ve ever fumbled around looking through your pockets and bags for that elusive pen that never shows up when you need it, fret not. Here’s a 2-in-1 stylus pen that will solve your problem. This 2-in-1 stylus pen does double duty as a Treo stylus, allowing you to tap on the screen just like a regular stylus, but will also work as a regular pen, so that you can still write down something on a piece of paper, when you need to do so, like providing your number to an acquaintance that doesn’t have a Palm.

Vimeo requires Flash Player version 8 to work.

(Sorry for the dark video. The videos are originally quite bright but some reason, when YouTube and Vimeo converts them into Flash videos, they totally darken by quite a lot. I’ve already brightened up the video when doing the original conversion but somehow the end effect becomes a lot darker. Attempts to upload a brighter version doesn’t seem to change anything. I guess it’s due to how the Flash conversion makes videos much darker. Sorry.)

The one nice thing about this 2-in-1 stylus pen is that it fits the Treo 650 perfectly, unlike a lot of other 2-in-1 or multifunctional stylus pens. For me, that’s quite important because the whole point (pardon the pun) is to be able to use it as a fully functional replacement stylus. If it is like a regular pen which won’t fit the stylus holder, what’s the point (pardon the pun again)? I can carry a pen around with me if I wanted to, so why would I want to spend the money for a stylus that I need to carry on me? It doesn’t make sense to me, regardless of how many other features it offers. The only way I’m willing to spend the money on a multi-functional stylus pen is if it will fit the stylus holder of my Treo. Having it fit obviously means that I will have the multi-functional capabilities everywhere with me, since the Treo is always with me. Not so with a separate pen and stylus as I can easily forget and leave it lying around somewhere or misplace it on me. With one that fits the stylus holder/slot, I don’t have to worry. The stylus is there, well, as long as the Treo is with me. ;)

The overall look of the stylus is very similar to the stock Treo stylus, with the exception that the tip and the head are in black. There are some slight differences with regards to the tip (as shown in the pictures and in the video) but the head is shaped exactly like the stock stylus head so that it will fit the Treo holder. The only way you can tell that it’s not the stock stylus is the color of the head. Otherwise, you can’t tell when looking at your Treo with the replacement stylus.

To use the stylus as a pen and write something down on a piece of paper, simply remove the head by pulling it out, similar to removing the cap off a ball point pen (similar idea). Then, you can write with the hidden pen and when done, put the cap, er, stylus head back in and put it back in the stylus holder/slot in your Treo. It’s that simple. The only gripe, (if it’s even a valid one) is that with most ballpoint caps that we tend to forget where we leave them and they get lost. The same will apply to the stylus head when you remove it to use the underlying pen. What would have been an idea is if the cap could fit the stylus tip end, very much like how we’d put the ballpoint cap on the other end. That way, we wouldn’t lose it. Especially with the 2-in-1 stylus, without the cap or stylus head, the stylus could easily fall into the stylus holder with no way of getting it back out, since the head is what keeps or prevents the stylus from falling in.

If you’ve ever wanted to be able to have a pen with your stylus so that you can write something down, for those special moments when only a pen will do, then the 2-in-1 stylus pen is a great solution. It will fit your device perfectly so that you can’t even tell that it’s not the stock stylus, yet offer you the added benefit of having your pen with you. No more fumbling around looking for a pen or asking colleagues or perfect strangers. With the 2-in-1 stylus pen, you have the both of both worlds. Ink, or virtual ink?

Thanks again to StylusCentral for providing the product for this review. Please check out the 2-in-1 stylus pen or the many other styluses (apparently styli or stylii is incorrect) sold at StylusCentral as well as for many other PDA accessories.
