Thanks, Palm Discovery Readers For Helping Donate $20 to Foster Parents Plan

Thanks for visiting Palm Discovery

First of all, before I begin with this post, I’d like to give a HUGE THANKS to Alex Mathews, webmaster of TreoBits (I am also an occasional contributor there) for a generous donation to Palm Discovery. The funny thing is that he was actually the first monetary donor and I was kind of confused when I got the email from PayPal regarding the money. So, I emailed him and he explained that it was a donation to Palm Discovery. Duh. I had completely forgotten about the PayPal donation button on the website.

Please take a moment to check out for a variety of Treo and Palm related news. It gets updated several times a day.

Again, thanks, Alex Mathews for your generous support of Palm Discovery!

It’s that time of the year when most of us are so busy with shopping lists, Christmas gifts, holiday shopping and everything else that we tend to forget about others that may need our help. By that, I mean others all over the world, the children from other countries that could greatly benefit from even a small donation of any amount.

Every year around this time, I am going to tally up the money I receive from proceeds of affiliate accounts, calculate the fees that I will have to pay for next year and what’s left over, I will make a donation to Plan Canada (formerly Foster Parents Plan Canada) in Palm Discovery’s name. This year, the money will mainly come out of my own pocket (let’s be frank here, it’s not like the money is coming in droves) but I wanted to start something in hopes that things could get better in the future years (and yes, I hope to keep Palm Discovery running for a long time). But, I need your help and support.

It costs money to pay for the domain name of Palmdiscovery.net and Palmdiscovery.com and it costs money each month to pay for a host to store and supply all the images, material that you see when you visit Palmdiscovery.net . I can’t continue to keep paying out of my own pocket to keep this running so I need some support. You can help me by visiting any of the vendors and stores and suppliers that I provide affiliate links for and making purchases of accessories or software that you normally purchase through other sites.

My affiliates include: Astraware, Audible, Boxwave, eGrips, eSellerate, Fictionwise, Handango, Palm US, ProTravelGear ScotteVest, ShareASale, SimplyAudiobooks, etc. All the affiliate link ads do not pay me any money for having it up. I only receive money when readers make a purchase from the links provided. Clicking on the links doesn’t pay me anything either. Some of the links like Brando are actually just a courtesy one where I provide a link back to thank for supplying the product samples.

As for the product samples I receive from the suppliers and vendors, I am planning to give them away through contests and giveaways. Again, it costs money to ship it out. So, I will need for the site to be financially sustainable through the support of Palm Discovery readers. The easiest way to support Palm Discovery is to make your Palm accessories or software purchases with the affiliate links, especially taking advantage of when special coupons or discounts are offered. That way both you and Palm Discovery will benefit. Or, you can also make a donation via PayPal (like Alex Mathews of TreoBits). I will make a point to personally thank you via a brief note in a future posting. And, again, the money from these will go towards the pot for paying for site maintenance fees and some of what’s left over will be donated.

Unfortunately, some of the affiliate accounts will require a minimum amount before they will pay me via Paypal or cheque, and a lot of them have a minimum of $100 USD. So, you can understand why I try to request for support. A few pennies here and a few pennies there still doesn’t amount to anything I can get until each account reaches that minimum payout level. So I’m paying out of my pocket until the day comes. Boxwave is probably the best affiliate in this respect since they do send me the balance every quarter (I think) regardless of how little it is. But for most others, I will have to wait (probably a long time, hopefully not too long) before I get the money.

So, hopefully, most of you have a better understanding of why I have all these “ads” on the site and my promotion of affiliate vendors and suppliers in the postings because this is still very much a low traffic site. So, please spread the word out about Palm Discovery and hopefully in time, it will get bigger and can be financially self sustaining or self-sufficient. Anyway, this post is really supposed to be there to THANK all the Palm Discovery readers and supporters for supporting the site.

I have recently made a donation to Plan Canada (formerly Foster Parents Plan of Canada) in the name of Palm Discovery readers for the small amount (that’s all I can afford out of my own pocket) of $20 Canadian. This will be used to purchase 1 Bee Keeping Kit for a family in Egypt and help sustain a business and livelihood for them.

Here’s a screen print of the online donation I made at Foster Parents Plan’s website:

I have also created a short video to show the letter I received from Foster Parents Plan of Canada regarding the donation.

Again, I thank all the Palm Discovery readers and supporters for making this happen. I certainly hope that I can make a bigger donation next year and in the coming years!
