Happy Chinese New Year of the Boar/Pig to everyone worldwide that celebrates the Chinese New Year!
A BIG THANKS to Palm Addicts for a recent mention of my Prima Cases Flip Style Case review on their front page.
Palm Discovery wishes to give a BIG THANKS to Richard of Prima Cases for providing the product for this review.
Here’s a simple, no-nonsense holster-like case that does what a PDA case is supposed to do; hold the PDA securely onto your belt or pants. And this is what it does very well, even with a subtle bit of style. For those who don’t like a flashy, multi-pocket, multi-flap cases that seemingly get in the way, then, the Palm Treo Premium Leather Low Profile Jacket Case may be exactly what you’re looking for. It’s very functional without being flashy but still offers a certain sense of style.

The Palm Treo 600/650/700/680 Premium Low Profile Jacket from Prima Cases is quite simply, a holster case that cups and supports the Treo smartphone with a very strong belt clip that grips and secures the case with the Treo onto the belt or pants that it is clipped to.
The quality crafted premium leather case offers a very simple looking but very functional holster case. The front of the case has a slightly lower cut than the back to allow for easy removal and insertion of your Treo. At the bottom corners of the case, there are inward cutouts to allow for the various shapes of the Treos as well as aid in the maneuverability of the Treo inside the case, so that you don’t need to fight with it to insert or remove it.
On the sides, there are elastic side vents or slits that run down the middle from the top to about three quarters of the way down. These side vents are there to keep the Treo snugly inside the case, adjusting to the varying thickness of the Treo lines, compensating for thinner Treos while still be able to stretch for thicker ones. And it’s well designed that it does a great job of providing enough grip to keep it in the case, even when upside down, and again, without forcing you to battle with it when removing or inserting the device.
At the back, there’s a locking non-removable ABS swivel clip. It will lock into various positions. If you look at the back of the case at the clip and think of it as a protractor (think way back to school days. At the default position, think of it locked at the 90° position on the protractor. The clip will also lock in at the 65°, 30° and 0° as well as the 115°, 150° and 180°. Now, here’s the part I really like: the non-removable belt clip. This clip first of all is a decent size to provide enough strength and grip. The spring is quite strong, which is another plus. It takes a bit of pressure to release and open the clip, which only means that the clip will be great at clipping even those thin fabric material, like my Tilley pants. I really like having the hook on the clip, which does a great job of clasping to a belt or any material. And I especially like the “teeth” on the hook which really grips well. This is one belt clip that I think is the best I’ve seen. It is strong, has a hook and has the teeth. Nothing will slip by with this clip! I only wished that this type of clip were found on all belt clip cases.
Keep in mind that only in the black color model has the non-removable swivel clip. The red color model will offer a removable swivel clip found in many other leather cases offered by Prima Cases.
My one and only quip about this case is that there is a lack of speaker hole at the back, something that I have mentioned before, is quite important (for me personally) with leather cases. But of course, with such a hole, the case wouldn’t look nearly as nice as it does.
The inside of the case is lined with a brushed nylon material and padded to provide some cushioning and shock absorption. As indicated it is quite a low profile holster case that offers a quick and easy access to the Treo. Simply slide the Treo into the holster case and it sits inside quite snugly and comfortably. To remove it, grab hold of the top of the Treo and pull it out. No need to unsnap magnetic closure tabs, open flaps or do other things. Just quick and simple access.
Overall, this is another quality crafted case from Prima Cases. It offers a very low profile, no-nonsense approach with a holster like form that does the job well. It securely holds the Treo device in place, even when flipped upside down and will hold a variety of Treo devices with grace and style. It looks simple but yet stylish and very functional. This case will appeal to many people who just want a simple but stylish looking case without having to fiddle around with straps, tabs, closures, flaps, etc. The non-removable belt clip is amazingly strong, reinforced with special teeth at its hook to grip on to the belt or pants and something I have not yet seen (but my exposure is obviously quite limited) in other cases. The locking positions ensure a firm placement of the case in the way you want. I would have preferred that there were a speaker hole, but that is a minor observation and suggestion. Again, with all Prima Cases leather cases, you can also customize it by embossing it with your own initials, logos, etc for a small fee.
The Palm Treo Premium Low Profile Jacket supports and will fit amongst the line of Treo devices including the Treo 600, 650, 700, 680. Although it doesn’t state the 750, I’m quite sure it will also fit that model as well.
Again, I thank Richard of Prima Cases for providing the product for this review.
