First of all, I’d like to thank Sammy McLoughlin of Palm Addicts for generously offering a lot of his devices and gadgets for giveaways. I was one of the lucky winners of the Proporta Gadget Bag giveaway last year and just received it recently. I’d also like to thank Hannah of Proporta for the wonderful gadget bag, which I have “discovered” to be a very versatile gadget bag.
Disclosure: I am an affiliate of Proporta and purchases made with the affiliate links in this post and throughout the site will help keep Palm Discovery.net running as paying for future giveaways offered from time to time. Thanks to your generosity, $20 was donated to Plan Canada (formerly Foster Parents Plan International) in 2006 and $85 was donated in 2007. Thanks!

With all the wonderful gadgets and mobile electronic devices that we own plus all the battery chargers, cables, batteries, etc, it’s no wonder that we tend to find it cumbersome to find a way to carry them all. Thankfully, there’s Proporta’s Gadget Bag, which offers a stylish and organzied way to carry them all.

I must admit that when I first saw the gadget that I was thinking that it was just another bag. Boy, was I wrong. Yes, it may be “just another bag that can hold gadgets” but it definitely offers a lot more. The gadget bag is actually made up of three separate detachable bags or compartments held together by zippers and velcro. There are two smaller bags at the front or top (depending on how you’re looking at it), and one bigger one at the back (or bottom). As I’ve mentioned already, they are all detachable and can be carried around separately, or together.
The two smaller bags are held and zipped to the larger bag on each side and also held together to each other by a velcro strap in the middle. The bigger bag is double zippered making it very easy to open or close the bag. With a double zipper, you can easily string out a headphone wire or any cable from the inside without worrying about leaving part of the bag open. Great idea! But wait! There’s an additional bag hidden inside, also held by velcro. There’s also an elastic band that can be used to hold your bulky the charging cables. At the back of the bag, you can snap on the included adjustable shoulder strap to transform the gadget bag into a shoulder bag. Or, remove the shoulder strap and fit it inside the bag when not in use.
The gadget bag is made of very durable Condura nylon and padded all around its sides to protect your delicate mobile electronic devices. But the one very cool design that impressed me the most is the existence of the plastic aperture or cross hair styled slits found in each bag or compartment. What’s special about these slits is that they allow easy threading of headphones, cables or wires through the bags or compartments all the while keeping everything inside from falling out. For example, you can charge up your Treo or iPod even though it’s in one of the outer bags or compartments and the Proporta Mobile Device Charger is at the back simply by threading the charging cables through the various plastic apertures or slits in each of the bags. So, while you’re carrying your gadget bag, you can have it charging inside with others around you, oblivious to what’s happening inside. Or, enjoy listening to your mp3 player while it’s hidden safely inside the bag. Cool!

Here are my observations:
Needless to say I’m impressed with this gadget bag, first by the versatility of it. I can carry each individual bag or compartment if needed or zip them all together and carry as many items as I want. They’re very easy to zip together and remove. The shoulder strap makes it handy to have to carry it over the shoulder or you can remove it if desired. The main feature that won me over as I’ve mentioned already are the plastic aperture in each bag or compartment that connects the bags to each other. They are so functional that they allow the wires to go through yet keep everything inside. When not in use, they close up and you hardly notice that they’re there. I can choose to thread the charging cable from the Mobile Device Charger held inside the charging bay/bag at the back and connect it to my Treo or mp3 player at the front bag using the available plastic apertures or slits.
My only suggestion is that the bag also have sewn in handles for those of us who prefer to carry the bag using the handles rather than on our shoulders. I guess the handles could be sewn somewhat in a similar fashion to the shoulder strap attachments, with the other handle sewn in just before the compartment zippers come in. Or, alternatively, handles could be sewn in on the sides of the bag, with the larger bag having one handle and each smaller compartment bag having the other handle. Just a suggestion. Regardless, I am very impressed with this bag.
Proporta’s Gadget Bag is a very versatile bag that will hold and help organize your mobile devices discretely in a stylish manner. The design of the bag is ingenius. It’s made up of three separate bags or compartments that can be connected together into one comprehensive bag, or, if desired, can be separated and used as individual bags by themselves. All compartments are held together by the combination of zippers and velcro so it’s very easy and quick to put them all together or separate them from each other. What sets this bag from “just any other bag” that holds gadgets is the special plastic aperture or slits that enable the threading of cables or wires through the various compartments to allow connectivity of the devices in each compartment. So while you’re carrying the bag around, it could be charging your mobile devices or you could be listening to your mp3 player.
But don’t take my word for it, check out the Proporta Gadget Bag. While you’re there, check out Proporta’s Mobile Device Charger, with an impressive 3400mah capacity which I personally found to be very useful, especially during my recent trip to keep my Treo charged up. You can read my review of it here.
