Palm Discovery would like to extend a BIG THANKS to Richard and Luis of Prima Cases for providing the product for this review.
Do you ever get annoyed that the PDA, or cell phone or smartphone belt clip case that you got tends to get in the way? You know. When you’re bending down to tie your shoelaces, or picking up a pen from the floor or any time you are bending down for whatever reason. The vertical belt clip case for your PDA, smartphone, cell phone is likely poking at your gut or stomach. The simple solution to this problem is to get a lateral case like Prima Cases’ Lateral Holster Style case.
For those who want to skip over all the detailed review and just want a summary, you can jump to the review summary
This is a quality case made of durable premium full grain leather. As the name implies, it’s a lateral case with a front opening flap to expose a holster like design. The flap is kept closed by a set of magnetic snap closure that even when it’s not completely snapped in, the magnetic pull will still keep the case flap down.
Aside from its good looks, the case offers very decent shock and bump protection. The inside of the front and back of the case is slightly padded to help absorb mild shock and bumps. Also, the inside has a minute fiber lining that helps to keep the device in place and also prevent scratches.
The back of the case has a very durable and heavy duty non-removable belt clip. It’s permanently fixed on so there’s very little chance the clip and case will separate, something that you may likely experience with many removable belt clips. The clip itself is curved inwards with a set of teeth to help grip to the material it is clipping to, whether it’s a belt, pants, jacket, etc. As well, the top of the clip is hooked to also help prevent the clip from sliding off the belt even when there’s pressure to release the clip.
In addition, the belt clip has seven different locking positions to accomodate your preference. You can move the belt clip way over to one side so that you can carry the case vertically with the flap opening from one side. Or, adjust the clip to any of the other 6 positions if you so desire.

Here are my observations:
This is one very well crafted and beautifully made lateral holster case. But then, we are talking about Prima Cases so quality is something that is expected. The case is very functional and stylish and works as expected. As I’ve mentioned in previous Prima Cases reviews with the belt clips, this particular permanent locking position clip is one I really like because I don’t have to worry that the clip will ever fail me. It’s very durable and strong with the hook and teeth at the end that it does a great job of keeping the case still clipped to the belt even if you somehow accidentally pressed on it. There really isn’t anything I can complain about this case.
Here are some suggestions that I have mentioned in other similar related products that I personally think may help improve on the case. If there is a speaker hole at the back of the case, this could help allow sound to come out. A lot of times, I find that leather cases without such holes tend to block out a lot of the sound. This can be important when a phone call comes and you are unaware of it ringing because most of it is blocked. But of course, this can take some of the beauty of the case away by having holes at the back. Another suggestion is to provide a card slot for holding the flash SD cards or other small items. I am finding that especially now that I am using my Treo 750 with the Wi-Fi card that I prefer a case with a place for a flash memory SD card, something similar to what other cases offer, with an elastic fabric material that will stretch to accomodate and allow easy insertion and removal of the item in a small pocket.
The leather can be a bit rigid or hard, which can be a good thing as you know that it will retain its shape longer and is less likely to stretch and look saggy or out of shape too quickly. But of course, over time, as it is leather, it will soften a bit. If you prefer a softer feeling leather case, then you may want to look for a different leather case. Otherwise, this will do very well as it is very durable and stylish.
Keep in mind that Prima Cases does offer personalization for many of its products for an additional fee. Such personalizations include embossing of initials, company logos, as well as other special requests. Please contact Prima Cases directly for your special customization and personalization needs.
Prima Cases Lateral Holster Case is a very durable, stylish and functional case that makes it a joy to hold and take out your Treo smartphone. The magnetic snap closure ensures that the flap will cover up the case even when it’s not fully snapped into place. The padded insides of the front and back of the case keeps the Treo well cushioned against any accidental bumps or shocks and the inner soft felt like brush lining also keeps and prevents the delicate screen from scratches.
What stands out most for me is the permanent fixed belt clip as it’s very strong and durable. The clip’s hook and teeth at the end does a great job of keeping the case still attached to a belt or pants even when the top of the clip is accidentally pressed. You can be assured of the quality of Prima Cases’ products when it arrives in your home as they are individually inspected before they leaves the warehouse. After all, they’ve been in the business for over 25 years!
If you’re like me and want a quality leather case with a good almost fail proof belt clip, look no further than Prima Cases Lateral Holster Style case.
