Palm Discovery would like to extend a BIG THANKS to Thomas of USB Fever for providing the product for this review.

Ever find that you’re scrambling to find that infrared pointer for your presentation and the presentation is in a few minutes? Or, you can’t find a pen or need a stylus when you’re pressed for time? Well, this may be something that can help.

USB Fever’s 4-in-1 Stylus is, as the name implies, a 4-in-1 stylus with four different uses or features for one item. At first glance, you’d think that it was simply a regular ball point pen with a clip. But, there’s more to it than that.

Twisting the tip end of the stylus counter clockwise will bring out the stylus tip. To retract the stylus and bring out the pen tip, twist it clockwise. So, you can use this stylus for PDA or other touchscreen devices and also write down a note if needed. Near the top end of the stylus along the side are two sets of buttons. The button closest to the top end will turn on the infrared pointer light. The other button will turn on a very bright white LED light and can be used as a mini flashlight. The light will only turn on when the buttons are depressed. When doing presentations, it’s very handy as you can turn it on when you need to, rather than fumble around for an on/off switch. But, if using it for a flashlight, you may find that it’s cumbersome to keep the button depressed to keep the light on. The stylus is relatively lightweight and is just a slight longer and thicker than most ball point pens. Most people would not experience much difficulty writing with the stylus pen.

Here are my observations:

The product works as expected. It’s effortless to roll out the stylus or the ball point pen tip. When not in use, you can retract the tip back inside so that it doesn’t stick out and cause any accidents or problems. You may find at first that you can’t remember which direction will bring out which tip. But then, you can quickly and easily discover which tip turned out and quickly make the adjustments to bring out the tip you want. The infrared red pointer light and the very bright white LED light is very handy to have, especially the infrared pointer light for those who do a lot of presentations at meetings. Having such a 4-in-1 stylus packs the versatility of a ball point pen and stylus with the infrared pointer so that you have these useful tools in one.

The only thing I can say about this 4-in-1 stylus is that it is slightly longer and thicker than most ball point pens (quite obvious since it packs a pen and stylus inside) as well as watch batteries for the pointer lights. But it isn’t likely to be too thick to make anyone notice when using it as a ball point pen. Also, since its size is about the size of a regular ball point pen, this stylus won’t fit in your PDA or smartphone device, so you will need to carry an extra item with you in your shirt pocket or elsewhere. But, if this packs the infrared pointer along with the pen and stylus, it definitely makes much more sense to choose over a regular infrared pointer of the size size. One last thing is that the metallica silvery composition may feel slightly slippery to the hand. So, if you do not like similarly styled metallic ball point pens, you may not like its slippery feel.

Review Summary

This is a very handy and useful 4-in-1 stylus, especially for business executives and those who do a lot of presentations. At about the same size of a regular infrared pointer, this 4-in-1 stylus also packs in a ball point pen, touch screen stylus, and a bright white LED light. It’s very lightweight and works as advertised.
