A BIG THANKS to Palm Addicts for the recent mention!
This will be the first post and review on the new host (I will likely not be posting over at netfirms anymore. NO, this is no Aprils Fools joke.) and I hope you guys and gals will like the new look. I’ve been saying it for a month and it has taken me a month to manually go through and update all the posts and move each one over. I’m not done with the move yet as I need to move all the comments over. If you’re reading this via the Feedburner feed, nothing will change as the feed is already reflecting this PalmDiscovery.com site. If you were previously subscribed to the old Netfirms feed, I’d suggest subscribing to the Feedburner feed or via PalmDiscovery.com’s feed.
Again, since the site will offer both Windows Mobile and Palm OS and gadget and technology related articles, you may want to only subscribe to the categories you are interested in. For example, if you are only interested in reading Palm related articles, subscribe to the palm category feed, or subscribe to the windows-mobile category feed if you are interested in the Windows Mobile articles. Simply select the category you are interested in on the left sidebar and add /feed/ to the end and you have the feed url for that particular category (ie. http://palmdiscovery.com/category/hardware-review/feed/ ). If you want to read everything that’s published, simply subscribe to the site’s feed or the feedburner feed. I hope everyone likes the new look.
Palm Discovery would like to extend a BIG THANKS to Ka Wang Yee of JAVOEdge for providing the product for this review.
Want the combination of a durable hard case that will protect and cushion your Treo and yet allow you to show off the beauty of the Treo device? Then look no further than JAVOEdge’s Alloyvision case, a hybrid hard case that combines the ruggedness of an aluminum hard case plus the beauty that a crystal clear plastic case offers. Talk about having the best of both worlds!
The product I am reviewing today is the JAVOEdge AlloyVision - Crystal Metal Case for Palm Treo 750 in black which should also fit the Treo 680, 755p and 750v. This case is also offered in silver and is available for other models. Please check out this link for more info.

The Alloyvision case is a hybrid case that is comprised of two separate materials: crystal clear polycarbonate plastic for the front and polished, shiny anodized aluminum for the back held together by a pair of flexible rubbery clips along the lower sides of the case. The combination of the two very distinctive materials make for a very stunning look that will likely make eyes turn.
This Alloyvision case is a sight to behold. I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. It offered the beauty of the crystal case which showcases the stylish looks of the Treo 750/680/755p with the durability and protection offered in an aluminum hard shell case. The case looks even more stunning with the clear case in the front and the lovely contrast of the black metal in the back. Oooh!
Okay, before I get carried away, this is obviously a very stunning looking case that offers more than its good looks. Like most other aluminum hard cases, the Alloyvison case is lined with a neoprene lining in the inside around the back to help provide shock and bump protection in addition to keeping a good grip of the Treo inside the case. Unlike other aluminum cases, this particular case seems to be much stronger, as I was not able to make the material bend at all when pressure was exerted.
The front of the case as mentioned is composed of a polycarbonate plastic shell which helps showcase the beauty of the Treo smartphone. There are cutouts for the screen and for the hardware and QWERTY keys. Side cutouts allow access to the side, volume buttons, camera, speaker, stylus, charging and connector ports in addition to the infrared port and miniSD card slot.
The back of the case is composed of a shiny polished anodized aluminum shell. There is a screw hole at the middle for the attachment screw should you wish to attach the supplied removable belt clip. Or, you can opt to keep the case as is without the clip as the case will work with or without the clip. Personally, I prefer it without the clip since I find that adding the clip may take some of the beauty of the case away.
Along the lower sides of the case are a pair of flexible rubbery clips that help keep the front polycarbonate plastic shell and the back anodized aluminum shell pieces together. These sets of clips do an excellent job of keeping the case together as you may not even notice that the case is actually made of two different materials. Although these clips do stick out somewhat, they are hardly noticeable able, and doesn’t distract the overall look of the case and may even help provide a good grip of the case.

Here are my observations:
I am very impressed with the looks of this case as I have already mentioned many times as it is very stunning. Aside from its good looks, this is a very functional case as well as it offers the protection that you can find in many other hard cases with a hard shell and shock and bump protection. I can not find any fault with this case nor with its design.
I like the slip in design of the case since I have full unobstructed access to the QWERTY keys, unlike many other book styled aluminum cases where the door will get in the way when opened. Should I need to remove the Treo from the case, I simply push it up from the bottom and pull it out. The neoprene lining is grippy enough to keep the Treo steady and in place, but not too much to give me much trouble when removing or inserting the Treo.
That said however, there are a few things I want to mention. This case is not as light (or as lightweight) when comparing to other aluminum cases, possibly because the material is a bit thicker and stronger. Depending on your preference, you will need to determine which is more important: weight or protection. Also, since the case is held by a set of rubbery clips along the bottom of the sides, some people may find it distracting as these clips do stick out a little bit (but not enough to really be too noticeable). I personally do not mind it but wanted to point this out. Alternatively, these clips may help you keep a better grip on the case as the aluminum back can be a bit slippery.
JAVOEdge has another winner here with its Alloyvision case. The ingenius design of combining the beauty of a crystal clear case with the protection of a hard case clearly (no pun intended) makes this not only a stunning combination but a very functional one as well. There are enough cutouts in the case to enable full access to all keys and features of the Treo when inside the case so you may never need to remove the Treo, unless of course, to change the SIM card (for GSM models) or the battery.
