USB Fever RF Wireless Mouse (Receiver-in-mouse)
Here’s a great idea for travelers or those always on the go: a portable wireless mouse that holds the usb wireless receiver inside the mouse when not in use! What a great idea! Not only do you not have to fight with the mouse wires when working, you also don’t have to deal with the wires either when packing, since the wireless receiver is stored inside the mouse. So now, you only take your laptop and the mouse with you. Talk about convenience!

This wireless mouse is what you see in the picture. It’s a portable wireless mouse with the wireless USB receiver stored inside it when not in use. To use the mouse, simply remove the wireless receiver stored in the mouse, plug it into a USB port, replace the mouse cover and you’re ready to go.

This mouse, being marketed as a portable mouse, is smaller in size than a regular desktop use mouse. It offers the typical left and right mouse buttons and a scroll wheel so many users will find that it offers the basic functions they require in a smaller more portable size. It is powered by two AAA batteries, which may be viewed as positive or negative depending on your perspective. Since alkaline batteries can be purchased anywhere, you will not find difficulty in powering up this device. However, if you are environmentally conscious, you may prefer that it offers charging capabilities. Alternatively, you may wish to use rechargeable AAA batteries instead of alkaline batteries for this same reason. It is very lightweight and works as advertised.

Connecting the mouse with receiver

When using the mouse for the first time, you may need to set up the mouse and receiver to “connect” with each other. To do so, press the “connect” button on the receiver. Press the “connect” button on the bottom of the mouse. Test the mouse to see if your movements are tracked on your computer screen. Repeat if necessary.

Power Saving Mode

The mouse will switch off after 15 minutes of inactivity. You can wake it up by pressing any button or moving the scroll wheel

Power On/Off

To turn off. Press the “connect” button located at bottom of the mouse for 3 seconds and release when you see the LED flash.

To turn on. Press the “connect” button ONCE and release when you see the LED light turn on.

Here are my observations:

This is a very small, portable and lightweight wireless mouse that I have now started to use when I’m taking my laptop around for meetings and other uses. Although it is somewhat smaller in size than my regular mouse, it is still comfortable to use. Although it’s very rare to not have a wheel on a mouse nowadays, it’s still nice to find it on this mouse. The mouse buttons work fine, although I guess I may be a bit picky about the “feel” or spring back of the button. The spring back feels stiff and not very unexpected with the plastic spring back sound, unlike the typical “clicking” sound of a mouse. Again, since I don’t expect to use it much except when I’m taking the laptop with me, I am not really complaining about the cheap button sound or feel. It works and that’s what I am focusing on.

It is powered by two AAA batteries, which as I’ve mentioned already, can be a good or bad thing. It can be good in that you can always find replacement AAA batteries everywhere you go and bad, that disposable alkaline batteries are bad for the environment. You may wish to use rechargeable AAA batteries instead if you have them to lessen the impact on the environment.

I really like the idea of fitting the USB receiver inside the mouse for space saving advantages and not having to deal with a wired mouse (it’s always fun to pack a regular wired mouse with all the wires). Even with the USB receiver inside, it’s still very light and almost feels like a toy since it’s so light. That makes me wonder why the regular mouse are heavier? The feel of the mouse obviously isn’t going to make you feel like you’re holding on to a premium mouse. It doesn’t offer the same feel of a typical Microsoft or Logitech mouse with the smoother feel but again, this is meant for usage on the road, which for many will mean that they won’t be using it as much as they would at the office or at home. So, with that said, the mouse works. And I think that’s all that matters, at least for me. If I wanted a premium wireless mouse, I’d go pay the big bucks for one but I’m happy with this one.

Review Summary

USB Fever’s RF Wireless Mouse (Receiver-in-mouse) works as advertised, offering a very small, portable, wireless mouse solution suitable for people on the go, who need to pack a minimal amount of items with them when working outside of their office or home. The smart design of fitting the USB receiver inside the mouse really makes it very appealing as it eliminates the trouble of tangled and wrapping wires and losing the wireless receiver. No more hassles with the mouse! This mouse isn’t meant to replace your desktop mouse as it doesn’t offer the feel of a premium mouse but it works and that’s what should really matter.
