Speck Products TechStyle Leather Case for TreoLooking for a different leather case that isn’t like other cases out on the market? Want to stand out from the crowd? Then look no further than Speck Products TechStyle Leather Case for Treo. Its great looks will definitely turn heads with its interesting and sleek design.

Innovative design

Unlike a lot of other cases, the TechStyle case comes with not only a belt clip holster but it’s also wrapped in leather. If you like plaid, you’ll love this case as the inside of both the case and the holster clip has a plaid pattern interior lining. The design of the holster clip is also something that sets it apart from many others.

For those who want to skip over all the detailed review and just want a summary, you can jump to the review summary

The package contains the main leather case which covers and protects the Treo device and a leather wrapped belt clip holster. As mentioned both the case and the holster has a plaid lining which may appeal to those who love plaid.

Overall description of case

The main case has a full length transparent plastic covering which protects and covers the Treo’s screen as well as the hardware and keyboard buttons. There is a snap tab closure that wraps over the top of the case and over to the top of the back. There are cutouts on the side for the side and volume buttons, at the back for the camera, mirror and internal speaker, at the bottom for the connectors and headphone jacks, and full access to the top.

The belt holster clip is wrapped with leather, including the non-removable belt clip. It is very stiff, rigid and extremely strong so there is no worry that the clip will allow the Treo to fall out once inserted in the holster. The belt clip is a fixed clip that is not held by springs but it is rigid enough to retains its shape.

To carry the case in its holster, simply turn the device front and case facing to the back (facing the plaid lining of the holster) and slip into the holster. Clip the holster onto your belt or pants, etc.

Although it is designed for the device and case to be facing to the back, you can hold it facing out. The front of the holster may press down on the keys and screen.

Palm Discovery thanks you for your support!

I Liked:
  • innovative design
  • strong holster
  • inner plaid lining

I Didn’t Like:

  • plastic covering hinders screen taps
  • tight fitting case
  • no card slot cutout

Here are my observations:

Innovative and different design

The design of Speck Products’ TechStyle Leather Case is quite innovative and different. The special added touch of a plaid lining definitely makes it stand out!

Stiff holster

The holster is amazingly stiff and rigid and I have no question that it will do well at protecting and keeping the Treo fitted inside. I have however, found that you may need to pull back the front of the holster in order to fit the Treo or, you may cause unnecessary friction when inserting the Treo in the holster. Also, since the leather is glued to the holster, I would suggest care when inserting and removing the case from the holster.

Stiff leather case

The case can be quite stiff and hard but as with many leather cases, you will notice it will soften over time. You may originally experience a bit of difficulty inserting and removing the Treo from the case as it is quite a tight fit.

Plastic covering hinders screen taps

The full plastic covering over both the screen and the hardware and keyboard keys may be nice to have at first but I have personally found it a hindrance after a while. First, by having the plastic covering the entire front area, the plastic is quite removed and above the screen area so when tapping on the edges of the screen that a much harder tap must be made in order for the screen to detect the tap. This also creates a temporary depression in the plastic, which does go away after a while. I would prefer that the screen area not have the plastic covering so that there is unobstructed access to the screen. I also do not think it is necessary to protect the hardware and keyboard keys, especially with a plastic covering.

Lack of card slot cutout

As someone who tends to swap out the miniSD card a lot since I tend to use the miniSD Wi-Fi card to access the internet, it is very important for me to have access the to card slot on the side. Having the card slot inaccessable due to a lack of a cutout is a huge disadvantage for me.

Aside from those observations, this case is quite good as it is quite a unique design and will definitely raise some eyebrows and turn some heads.

Review Summary

Speck Products TechStyle Leather Case for Treo is quite a very uniquely designed leather case that you can’t find anywhere else. Its good looks with the special plaid lining will definitely raise a few eyebrows and turn some heads as there is nothing else out on the market like it. Aside from its stiff holster and full length plastic covering which may somewhat hinder the screen taps, the case is very functional and stylish. Why not check it out for yourself or better yet, win one here!

@Jeff Atkinson, I don’t recall receiving or posting one with your name nor your email address. If you can direct me to it, I will surely give you the extra entries.

Good luck, JC Keh. Don’t worry guys, I have a few more Speck cases to give away to be announced in the next few weeks. You can enter in those as well to get a few more chances to win one.

Hi, my comment is for entering in the contest.

Now … how the PDA device has changed my life life (or how it helps me):
-I don’t use it for phone or internet but great for everything else. Now all those crazy little/big notes, reminders, calendars, password notes, and everything else, gone. My Treo has replaced all. Love it.

What do you mainly use your PDA for:
    - portable … lists, reminders, notes, password app ie keyring, calendar, multiple apps of all sorts. I’m always learning or finding something new every day.

Wouldn’t want to be without it now.

Always looking for a case to hold my Treo 755p. Thanks for this contest. Good luck to whoever is lucky enough to win this case.
