ProportaOne of the many annoyances (yes, I do get annoyed at many things ;)) I encounter is having to deal with untangling headphone wires when I take them out to plug into my smartphone and then getting them tangled again when I put them back in my pocket when I’m done. This is a cycle that happens daily. There’s got to be a better way. Well, there is!

Proporta Headphone Cable Tidy
Here comes Proporta to the rescue with their very ingeniously designed Headphone Cable Tidy, which takes up very little space, very lightweight and works extremely well. The idea is quite simple and it’s one of those “why didn’t I think of that” things. It’s quite simply a cable wrap/tie comprising of a pair of small, strong magnets at both ends of a rubbery, grippy plastic bundle/tie. Encircle or wrap the Cable Tidies around your bunch of wires and let the strong magnetic ends snap and enclose them inside. There! No more tangled wires. The magnets are very strong to keep the wrap holding but can easily be opened, albeit with a big of manipulation. At least it works very well.

Description

The Pack of 2 Orange Proporta Cable Tidies allow you to keep your headphones and cables grouped together to avoid getting your cables tangled. The magnetic clasp ensures that the clasp snaps firmly shut around the cable and is strong enough to be used through clothes, so you can keep your headphones pinned out of the way whilst in use. They are small and light-weight, so don’t get in the way or weigh you down.

I Liked:
  • small, lightweight, takes very little space
  • strong magnets ensure the tidy keep wires in place
  • very easy to use

I Didn’t Like:

  • magnets may be too strong to separate
  • can only wrap small bundles of wires
  • possible health concerns with strong magnets

Here are my observations:

Small, Lightweight, and Space saving design

I found this Headphone Cable Tidy to be such a great idea! Not only is it small, lightweight, and takes up very little space. It’s very easy to figure out how to use. Simply wrap the rubbery tidy around your bundle of headphone wires and let the strong magnetic ends snap together and you’ve got a good handle on the wires.

Difficulty separating the magnets

Removing or opening the wrap can be a bit more difficult since the magnets are quite strong. If you try to use brute force to separate the magnets, you may end up ripping the tidy so I’d be a bit careful when separating the magnetic ends. The trick I’ve found that seems to work is to push laterally on the magnets so that one is sliding off to the side and eventually you should be able to separate it. Otherwise, it does take a bit of force to do so.

Limited enclosure or wrapping area

One of my main complaints with the Headphone Cable Tidy is that it doesn’t wrap a lot of wires or the area that it can wrap around isn’t a lot. Of course, we are talking headphone wires which shouldn’t be very long so it’s understandable that it doesn’t allow for too much area or room. But, some of my headphones do have a certain length and I’m finding that I can’t use the Cable Tidy. My suggestion is hopefully that Proporta can provide a different Cable Tidy for other cables and wires like those for laptop power cables, or even computer headphones, something that is for universal use. That would be a great accessory for most of us who carry our laptops or other devices that have lengthy wires and cables.

Possible Health Concern with Strong Magnets

It may not be a big deal or concern to many who are healthy, but there may be a possible health concern with strong magnets, especially prolonged exposure to strong magnets. I’m not a health expert but thought that I’d include this as a note. The magnets are very small and shouldn’t really pose a health hazard or concern but it is very strong.

Review Summary

Proporta’s Headphone Cable Tidy is a very ingeniously designed headphone cable/wire wrap that is small, lightweight and doesn’t take up much space. I really like how it’s very simple to use and works very well. The magnets at each end are very strong and doesn’t take much effort to get them to snap the Cable Tidy close. My only complaint with the Cable Tidy is that it may not be able to wrap around some headphone wires that may be a little longer since the wrapping area isn’t very much. Aside from that, the Cable Tidy works very well.
