For those of us who need to be portable, it’s obvious that we’d want to take as little with us as possible and still be productive and work as if we were at the office or at home. With portability of most accessories, that usually means a smaller size than the typical desktop equivalent. This is especially true with respect to the computer mouse. A quick look at the “traveler” or “portable” mouse at your local computer store and you should be able to see how much smaller these are compared to those not labeled as such. It’s understandable that when traveling that we’d want to stay as lightweight as possible and be able to carry as little gadgets or accessories as possible, thus the smaller “traveler”-sized accessories, but is it worth compromising our comfort to do so? Not only would it be very uncomfortable to use a tiny mouse that isn’t designed for our hands, but it could cause cramps, and pain with use over time. Comfort or portability? It doesn’t have to be either one or the other.

That dilemma could be eliminated with USB Fever’s Palm-fit Adjustable Optical USB Mouse. This mouse offers the best of both worlds: a small, lightweight, portable USB mouse that doesn’t take up much space but also can be extended or adjusted in length to fit a larger hand. Considering how ergonomics plays a huge factor nowadays, I’m surprised that there aren’t similar mouse out there in the market geared for travelers. Why cramp your fingers and hand with a tiny mouse that isn’t suited for you when you can get one that will be big enough? Seems simple enough.

USB Fever’s Palm-fit Adjustable Optical Mouse is about 89mm in length (roughly measured from the top to the bottom). When the mouse is lengthened or extended, an additional maximum length of 16mm can be added, making the mouse approximately 105mm in length. This can greatly enhance the comfort of your hand compared to the normal length of 89mm. That 16mm can make a huge difference in comfort!

To extend or lengthen the mouse, simply hold the mouse with both hands, one hand holding the top part of the mouse by its sides and the other, digging your fingernails into the groove under the mouse buttons. Pull on both ends in opposite outward directions and the mouse should extend or lengthen. It’s that simple! You can adjust the length of mouse according to your preference but the maximum length it can extend to is 16mm.

The mouse also offers other great features you’d want in a traveler’s or portable mouse. The retractable, adjustable ratcheting cable is a very well received feature, allowing you the ability to extend the length of the mouse tail/cable to your needs and easily retract it back into a very portable, compact state when not in use. I really love this feature as it eliminates the typical problem of wired mouse when traveling. I normally spend a few minutes untangling the mouse cord. With a retractable cable, I simply retract the cable and it’s done. No more mouse cord/cable tangling and it’s nice and compact. Love it. The mouse features a double click button, which can greatly enhance productivity. Simply press the double click button rather than having to deal with pressing the left mouse button repeatedly for that. The left and right mouse button are at a decent size and offer a similar Windows mouse spring back feel and sound you may be accustomed to feeling and listening. The scroll wheel feels fine. The bumpy rivet-like feel ensures that you have full control over the mouse scrolling. The anchor button of the scroll wheel button also feels nice with the light, spring back feel. As it is an optical mouse, you can be assured that the mouse will be very accurate in detecting movements and tracking your cursor on the computer screen.

I fail to find anything I don’t like with this mouse.

Here are my observations:

What can I say? There isn’t much that I don’t like about this mouse. Keep in mind that this is not the high-end ergonomic mouse so you can’t compare this with those. As a small, portable, traveler’s mouse that you put in your gadget bag, this USB Fever Palm-fit Adjustable Optical Mouse offers most of what you want and need in a mouse: small, compact, portable size; double click button; left and right mouse buttons; retractable mouse cable/cord; optical recognition for accurate pointing. PLUS, the exclusive feature of being able to extend or lengthen the size of the mouse for added comfort. Although it’s not an ergonomic mouse, having that capability to extend the length of the mouse can greatly add to the comfort, without compromising its portable size and weight. This is a great idea and design and I’m surprised that there aren’t more like this!

I am very impressed with this mouse. I only wished that the length of the mouse could have been extended further than 16mm and that it could have been more ergonomically designed. But regardless, it’s still a very good mouse that offers a lot of features at an affordable price.
