Again, I’m posting about one of my favorite beverage: coffee (no, you were thinking beer? That’s for another post ;), namely, Starbucks coffee. If you haven’t been watching the news on TV, reading the national newspaper or visited your local shopping mall, you may not have heard about the latest product release from Starbucks, called Starbucks VIA Ready Brew. What’s so special about this latest product is that it’s an “instant” coffee. Okay, before I get all those eye rolling looks or groans, hear me out. This is something quite different from the “freeze dried” stuff you get at your local supermarket store. I have tasted black instant coffee and it’s very yucky with that sour-like taste and I try to avoid it like a plague.
So, needless to say, when Starbucks came out with a major launch of their VIA Ready Brew, I was quite curious. Apparently, 20 years went into the making of this innovative concoction and it shows. I’ve just visited my local Starbucks and asked for a taste sample. The girl was great to give me a sample of both their VIA Ready Brew Italian Roast (dark and extra bold) and Colombia Roast (medium). I gave a quick smell and then give a sip of the Italian Roast. Hmm! Not bad! No typical distinctive instant coffee taste! Wow! It actually tasted decent! However, I did notice something that indicated it wasn’t a drip brew coffee: the powdery texture. The Colombia Roast was a bit cold and didn’t taste as nice (probably because I prefer a much darker and bolder tasting coffee). Regardless, I was very impressed with the overall taste of this new “instant coffee” from Starbucks! Aside from the powdery texture, it’s not bad! And, you should try it out for free too!
From Friday October 2nd 5:00 am to Monday October 5th 10:00 pm, all participating Starbucks location in the US and Canada are offering the Starbucks VIA Taste Challenge! Try out the VIA Ready Brew and compare it with a regular drip and see if you can tell the difference! Win prizes and get coupons towards a free coffee just for partipating! So, you win regardless!
