When you look at your Nokia Symbian s60 version 3 smartphone, do you wonder how much time you still have left before you need to charge it? Sure, it may show 3 bars in the battery level indicator, but what does that really mean? Yes, you can get a rough idea of a percentage of how much battery power is still left but battery use is different amongst us. 3 bars to one user may mean 4 hours while the same 3 bars may mean only an hour. Wouldn’t it be great if there’s a battery monitoring program that will translate the battery bar levl indicator into something we can all understand, in terms of time remaining? Well, there is! Check out Capree’s iON BatteryTimer.

Capree’s iON BatteryTimer is a battery life calculator program for the Symbian S60 platform that will show you how much time you have left on your smartphone. No more guessing. This program will tell you how much time you have left before it’s fully drained. And the calculation is based on your battery usage over the cycle of the battery so it will be accurate based on your usage. How does it work? Read on for more details.

Capree’s iON BatteryTimer is a battery life calculating software that will calculate the battery level and time remaining based on your usage. The first time you use it, it won’t be able to provide you with the information as it will monitor the battery level and rate of usage until it gets to around a few bars. As you continue to use it, the program will be able to provide a much better and more accurate reading so that you will know exactly how much time you have left on your smartphone before you need to recharge it. That can save you time and avoid the inconvenience and trouble of having a dead phone.

The remaining battery time and more…

Have you ever been concerned if your battery survives the whole day when far from the battery charger or have you experienced unexpected battery drain over a single day? If so, using iON BatteryTimer for S60 3rd will appreciably improve your day-to-day smartphone experience. It can be installed on any S60 3rd device with 320×240 and 240×320 pixels screen resolution while offering the control of operating time remaining to complete discharge, providing the estimated future date&time of the battery being completely discharged and presenting how long the battery holds its charge on average. The iON presents data in three ways: main application, standby plug-in and dedicated power saver.

Features

  • Provides information about:
    • Operating time remaining to complete discharge,
    • Estimated future date&time of the battery being completely discharged,
    • How long the battery holds its charge on average,
    • Numbers of full and partial charge/discharge cycles recorded by application.
  • Fast and handy access to remaining time at the home/standby screen.
  • Power saver with additional the ‘big’ battery levels percentages indicator, built-in system notifications (e.g. missed calls, messages, unread emails, current profile, keypad lock).

I Liked:
  • straightforward, easy to use
  • provides battery life remaining in device
  • shows up in main screen

I Didn’t Like:

  • not much options or settings available
  • limited use except for battery life estimation and logging

Here are my observations:

I Like

Ease of use

iON BatteryTimer is fairly simple to use. Install it for the first time and wait until the battery level is almost at 2 bars left before the program can tell you how much battery life and time is remaining before it’s totally drained. You leave it running in the background and let it calculate the battery time left.

Displays battery time remaining

The focus of this program is that it shows the amount of time remaining on your device before it fully drains, which can be very useful to know, compared to other battery monitoring apps which may provide the percentage rather than the time remaining.

Can display battery life on main screen

The program can also show up on the main screen so that you have an idea of the time remaining rather than having to go to the program to find it out.

I Didn’t Like

Limited settings and options

The program being simple to use, also means that there is limited settings and options available. For those who wish a more customizable program, this may not offer what you’re looking for.

Limited use to battery life logging

Although the program does what it’s designed and focused to do, I have a hard time justify paying $9.95 US for it. For the first little while, it’s nice to be able to see and let the program calculate how much time is remaining on my device. But after a few cycles, the interest quickly wore off.

I would like the program to offer different calculations based on different usage. By that I mean, offer different calculations and time remaining based on a more aggressive use and a less aggressive use, so that we can get a much better idea of how much time remaining may change.

Considering that most of us may sometimes stray away from normal usage and start using it more aggressively (ie. more phone calls due to work deadlines, more surfing the internet for research, brighter setting in dark environments, etc) due to sudden changes to that typical pattern.

Unless I am monitoring battery life to test and compare battery optimization apps, I can’t justify paying the money for this program. Of course, I’m sure many will disagree with me with regards to this.

Review Summary

Capree’s iON BatteryTimer is a battery monitoring software program that will calculate, based on the battery life cycle of your device, the amount of time remaining on your device. For those who lead a busy lifestyle, this can be very useful and important as every minute of battery life may make a huge difference. Although the program works very well in showing the battery life remaining, it is somewhat limited features and settings. If you’re looking for a battery monitoring program for your Symbian S60 smartphone, take a look at Capree’s iON BatteryTimer.
