JbakTaskMan for Symbian S60 devices

As much as we love our Symbian S60 smartphones, there’s always something, that extra feature, control, etc that we’d love or like to have that will make it even better. Regardless of whether you’re a smartphone fanatic that wants to dig deep into the programming of the device, or you’re simply someone who just wants an extra feature or control over your device, I’m sure most of us wouldn’t pass up on a utility that will provide just that little extra over our device. And JbakTaskman a task manager program that offers more than a simple task manager app, certainly won’t disappoint.

JbakTaskman, once installed, will automatically load when your Symbian S60 smartphone starts up and will stay running until you close it. You can view a list of currently running programs and close it. Set up a list of your favorite or commonly used apps for quick launch, find more information on a specific program and a lot of other features that you didn’t know was available. If there is an app that you want to install on your Symbian S60 smartphone, this is it.

I Liked:
  • auto launch and running when device is on
  • customisable quick launch list of apps, urls, etc
  • view processes, threads, chunks
  • quick and stable termination of tasks
  • autorun/start up of specific selected programs
  • phone reboot
  • System info on smartphone: IMEI, IMSI, signal, battery, etc
  • FREE

I Didn’t Like:

  • current version is available unsigned but you can easily install unsigned apps with HelloOX2 (my review)

Here are my observations:

I Liked:

Auto launch and running when device is on

I like how the program will load and launch automatically when the phone is boot up. So, when I turn on the phone or reboot it, JbakTaskMan will automatically load and run and will remain running in the background until you close it. So, it’s a no worry program.

Customisable quick launch list of apps, urls, etc

Upon launch of the app, you will notice a list of quick launch apps (blank if you’re running it for the first time) that you can add to the “Quick Launch” list. You can add, remove, move up or down the list according to your preference. This can be a quick way to access and launch your favorite or commonly used app, link, etc.

View processes, threads, chunks

JbakTaskman is one of those apps that computer and smartphone geeks would love. This program offers the capability of viewing processes, threads, chunks and also allow you to copy it to a clipboard so that you have it available for viewing later. This is a must-have app for such enthusiasts for troubleshooting and getting a much better idea of what and how the smartphone works. For the majority of us, this is something we can pass on ;)

Quick and stable termination of tasks

JbakTaskman will allow you to quickly terminate or close an app or task without worrying about it affecting stability of your smartphone. That’s quite an important thing to have because you don’t want to close a task and find out that your smartphone has become unstable after doing it.

Autorun/start up of specific selected programs

One of the features that I really LOVE about JbakTaskMan is the ability for me to set specific apps to load or run upon boot, or reboot. This is quite important for me as I rely on specific programs during the course of my day. Eliminating the need to manually open and launch each app individually really is a timesaver and avoids frustrations.

Phone reboot capability

Although many of us can reboot or restart a phone manually by powering it off and then powering it back on, or using an app like EQ Restart (my review) that will reboot/restart the phone, isn’t it nice that JbakTaskMan also has that capability from within the app?

System info on smartphone: IMEI, IMSI, signal, battery, etc

For many of us who have no idea what our smartphone’s IMEI is or curious about the cellular signal, cell ID, etc, JbakTaskman will display it for easy viewing.

FREE

This amazing and powerful task manager app is available for FREE! What can I say, I love FREE.

I Didn’t Like:

Current version is available unsigned

For those who have not hacked their Symbian S60 smartphone to allow installation of unsigned apps, this may be one of the biggest disadvantages of the program. However, as I’ve mentioned in my review of HelloOX2, you can easily install any unsigned apps once you have HelloOX2 installed so unsigned apps will no longer be a problem.

I fail to find anything wrong with the app at all. My only request is perhaps allow a schedule or timer when I can get the program to perform a scheduled or timed reboot.

Review Summary

JbakTaskMan is much more than a simple task manager program that will provide you with much more detailed info on your smartphone that some of us may not want to know ;) . Especially for hardcore computing geeks, JbakTaskMan will display threads, processes, and chunks plus allow copying to the clipboard for later analysis. And you can restart/reboot your smartphone from within the app, a capability that normally involves manual powering the smartphone off and on. In addition, you can set specific apps to autorun upon boot up/reboot. But that’s not all! However, it’s probably best YOU go and try it out yourself and see all the other features it offers.
