Mummys Treasure for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad

If you’re one of those who enjoy a puzzle or a game that makes you use those brain cells, you might be interested in a game called Mummys Treasure which has an ancient Egypt twist. You are inside a pharaoh’s tomb. Your goal is to collect all the treasures you can find while getting rid of mummies and skeleton heads. You can tap to get rid of skeleton heads and blocks of bricks but the only way to get rid of the mummies is to make them fall down. That’s the tricky part. And of course, ensure that the treasure doesn’t fall through either. The game is a puzzle game involving gravity and calculating how blocks will fall. Your main goal is to ensure that the only thing remaining is the treasure so that you can continue on to the next level and you’ve completed the level in as little time as possible. But like I said, it’s not as simple as it sounds.

The game is quite simply, a puzzle which involves common sense physics with a challenging puzzle all against a backdrop of an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh’s tomb. You are an explorer, something similar to Indiana Jones without the Nazi reference exploring an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh’s tomb. Your goal is to collect all the treasures you find as you venture from the top of the tomb to the bottom. And you can’t have tombs without mummies. There’s also skeleton heads. You have to try to get rid of those in your quest to collect the treasure. But it’s not that simple to get rid of them.

Getting rid of the skeleton heads involves simply tapping on them and they will fly away. However, with the mummies, you can’t get rid of them in the same manner. This is where you will need to use your brains to determine how to make the mummies fall through to the bottom. That’s the only way you can get rid of the mummies. But, be careful! You have to also make sure that you don’t let your treasure fall through as well. However, should you find yourself in a situation where there’s mummies left behind or your treasure has fallen through, you can always replay the same level again. After a few attempts to play the same level, the game will give you a hint or an option to skip that level to the next one. And if you continue to keep trying, it will prompt a little message about your perseverance. Plus, don’t forget that not only are you trying to solve a puzzle, you are also doing it against the clock with bonus points for quick completion.

THOUGHT PROVOKING PUZZLES

The premise is simple, collect all the treasure while getting rid of the Mummy and Skeleton heads, but the reality is that the game gets complex quickly and you’ll need to use your head as well as your fingers if you want to make it through the tomb!

PHYSICS ORIENTED GAMEPLAY

You had better be careful which parts of the puzzle you tap, gravity doesn’t always behave how you might expect in the mysterious world of Mummys Treasure!

TIMING IS KEY

Some puzzles require more than simply knowing which blocks to tap. Sometimes you’re need to have quick fingers at the ready to make sure you keep the gold and lose the evil Mummies and Skeleton skulls!

  • No settings screen
  • Not very addictive

Here are my observations:

I Liked:

Simple, easy to play

The game is very simple and easy to play. You simply tap on the screen to either get rid of the supporting block or a skeleton head. However, after saying that, although the game is relatively easy to figure out and play, it isn’t as easy to play through as you may otherwise think. There is a lot of thinking involved in each puzzle as you have to figure out the dynamics and how something will fall and move and how it will affect other objects on the screen.

Interesting idea for game

I have to hand it to Chillingo to come up with a puzzle game that has an Egyptian Pharaoh tomb in the backdrop. The idea of the game involving gravity, physics and motion is well put and thought out in this game as it offers a very unique experience for the gamer. Especially in levels that involve a swinging or moving object, the effects of the movement of the object is quite interesting to note.

Game Center and Crystal supported

Any time that a game supports a social game platform like Game Center and Crystal, I am quite impressed as it offers that little extra for those who wish to compete with and connect with other players who play this and other games.

Challenging puzzles

This is a fun yet challenging game in terms of forcing you to think your strategy and moves in order to get rid of the skeleton heads and mummies while keeping the treasures. Especially with levels in which there is a gold platform which does not allow you to get rid of, the hard part is getting rid of mummies which are required to fall through to the bottom.

Multi stage game

This game involves several stages of 20 levels, obviously each with increasing difficulty and challenges. I have not gone beyond level 21, which is in the second stage. I am sure that there is at least another stage past this one.

Tutorials and brief help screen

The game offers a brief help screen to explain how the game works. But what I enjoy most about the game is that there are tutorials throughout various levels explaining how to navigate through the level. Not only do the tutorials explain it, you actually play through the tutorial to offer you a feel of what’s involved and required. Very nice.

Ability to re-play a level

One thing I like about this game is that because each level has a certain points level, you can re-play a level to get higher points. Or, you can re-play an earlier level at any time. Especially when you’re stuck at a particular level, you can go back and play an earlier level.

Ability to skip a level

This is one feature I hardly ever encounter in any game; the ability to skip the current level to the next one. This may seem like a great idea as you can continue to keep playing but in some way, it almost seems like cheating as you are skipping over a problem to continue playing. I tend to keep on at it until I get through.

However, in some ways, being able to skip to the next level allows you to be able to see how it’s arranged, if only for curiosity’s sake.

I Didn’t Like:

No side games available

Although the game offers several stages, I would still like to be able to play some other “side” games that isn’t necessarily connected to the main adventure or multi-stage and level game. This allows me to simply play a game without having to concentrate on my progress.

No Background music playback support

For those who prefer to listen to music stored on their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad instead of the game music, the game does not support background music playback.

No volume control or slider

Unfortunately, this game does not offer a volume control or a volume slider. You can’t control the game music or its sound effects. The only way you can control the volume is through your iPhone volume buttons. However, you can’t control the level of the sound effects or the music.

No direct contact to developer within app

Unfortunately, the game doesn’t offer an About screen in which the game credits are normally displayed and usually with a contact link to the developer so there is no direct way to contact the developer if you encounter any bugs or problems with the game.

No settings screen or option

When many games offer a Settings screen where you can control various aspects of the game, unfortunately again, this game doesn’t supply such an option.

Not very addictive

As much as the game is challenging and requires a bit of concentration and brain work, however, I did not find it to be too addictive. I am thinking that this may be due to a lack of tie in between each level as each level seems to be a single puzzle by itself.

Review Summary

Mummys Treasure for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad is a challenging, fun puzzle game with an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh backdrop. It requires a good sense of physics, quick thinking and patience, offering several stages of mind tapping fun. However, I didn’t find the game to be overly addictive as each level seems to be self-contained which doesn’t seem to link to the next. Due to this characteristic, I found that I could easily stop playing the game and not feel compelled to return, which is a shame, as it is a good puzzle game.

This game is currently available for FREE for a limited time only! I do not know when this special offer will expire so I’d suggest everyone to download this game now while it’s still free.

If the game weren’t free, I doubt that I would spend the money to buy this game because I didn’t find it all too addictive.

Please keep in mind that this is my personal opinion and that I’m sure that many will disagree with me with respect to the game.
