Cut the Rope for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad
Cut the Rope for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad

There’s a ring at the door. You open it and there’s no one there. However, you find a cardboard box left at your doorstep. It’s held and tied up with a string wrapped around it. A sign on the side of the box says “Feed with Candy”. Curious, you bring the box inside. You use a box cutter and open up the box. Inside the box you find a curiously cute looking monster named Om Nom. Om Nom wants candy. However, the candy is strung up on strings, or ropes. Your job is to cut the rope and let the candy fall right into Om Nom’s mouth. That’s easy, right? Wrong! It’s not as simple as you think. You must think before you cut or the candy won’t fall into Om Nom’s mouth. Be careful to avoid allowing the candy to shatter into pieces. There will be obstacles that will make it challenging to feed the candy. Think before you cut.

The idea of the game is simple. Feed Om Nom, the cute looking monster by cutting the rope or string that is holding the candy. Swipe your finger across the rope to cut it. Be careful about where you cut. Avoid letting the candy to shatter into pieces. There will be multiple candies strung up together with various obstacles that may prevent it from falling into Om Nom’s mouth. So you have to use your thinking cap and physics knowledge to determine how the candy will fall when the string is cut.

A mysterious package has arrived, and the creature inside has only one request…CANDY! Help get the candy to Om Nom, the adorable monster, in this highly innovative and addictive puzzle game. Combining outstanding physics, devilishly tricky levels, and bright colorful High Definition visuals, Cut the Rope is one of the most original and fun-filled games on the App Store.

I WANT CANDY!

Cut the Rope combines realistic physics with simple, yet accurate and precise touch controls. Cut the ropes by simply swiping your finger across them and collect the stars by touching them with the candy, but it’s not always simple. Think before you slice and be sure to avoid the enemies and obstacles. Every level is different and getting that candy to Om Nom won’t be easy!

IT’S KNOT GONNA BE A BREEZE

In Cut the Rope you don’t just need to feed Om Nom, in order to get maximum points you will also need to collect three golden stars in each stage. Some are easy, some are deviously difficult; you’re going to have to use your head to get them all-but be quick, some of these stars don’t hang around forever! Dodge jagged spikes that smash your candy to bits, and look out for sneaky spiders intent on having Om Nom’s treat all for themselves!

STAR PLAYER

Use a variety of special tools in your effort to get Om Nom his candy. Blow candy around in bubbles using special air pumps, catapult your candy across the screen to get to those hard to reach stars, use hidden ropes and special pulleys in your effort to get every star there is!

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX, INSIDE THE BOX

Easy to learn and intuitive to play, Cut the Rope is hard to put down. As you progress, Om Nom will jump from one box to another, with more levels to get through. With each new box contains new and even more challenging stars and obstacles, can you make it to the end?

Crystal Leaderboards and Achievements: Players can see how they compare to rope cutters throughout the world via online leaderboards and achievements through Crystal!

Cut the Rope also supports Game Center.

I Liked:
  • Simple, easy to play
  • Cute character and story
  • Variety of challenging obstacles
  • 7 stages of games
  • Crystal and Game Center support
  • Background music playback support
  • Supports skipping, re-playing or level selection

I Didn’t Like:

  • No volume slider
  • limited Facebook and Twitter integration
  • Only supports portrait mode

Here are my observations:

I Liked:

Simple, easy to play

The game is fairly simple to understand. Cut the rope holding the candy so that it will fall into Om Nom’s mouth. Swipe your finger across the rope to cut it. Of course, as simple as the idea is, the actual strategy isn’t as simple.

Cute character and story

Who doesn’t like a cute little monster like Om Nom? I especially love watching his disappointment and shocked look when the candy misses him. I find that extremely funny to watch. I like the design of the various stages with the cutting of tape on the box to open it, and sealing it back up with tape when jumping to another level. Very creative way to present the game.

Variety of challenging obstacles

I like the various different obstacles involved in the game. You have to first figure out how to cut the rope so that the candy will swing a certain way or fall a certain way. Then later on, you’ll encounter spikes which will shatter the candy and others. This keeps the game fun and challenging and also keeps it fresh and addictive.

7 stages of games

There are 7 different stages each containing 25 levels of games, starting with the Cardboard Box stage and Fabric Box and with each new stage unlocked when a certain number of stars are collected. With 175 levels of games, it will certainly take you a while before you get to the end.

Crystal and Game Center support

For those who like to compare scores and game achievements with others, this game supports both Crystal and Game Center.

Background music playback support

For those who prefer to play their own music while playing a game, this game will support background music playback. Simply disable the game music and play your favorite tunes and enjoy it.

Supports skipping, re-playing or level selection

Sometimes, a game can get very frustrating when you’re stuck at a particular level and you just can’t progress. Cut the Rope allows you to be able to skip a level, re-play a level or select a particular level to play. This offers the gamer to be able to play whatever level he wishes without being stuck playing a particular level and not being able to progress to the next.

I Didn’t Like:

No volume slider

Again, this game does not support a volume slide and only allows toggling between enabling sounds and music. As many who know me, I tend to prefer a volume slider control.

Limited Facebook and Twitter integration

Although the game offers a button for Facebook and Twitter, they are for fan pages and connecting through the Fan page. Unlike other games where you can at least post your score on these social networking sites, you are limited to posting them on the Fan page.

Only supports portrait mode

Again this is a personal preference. I can understand the reasoning for only rendering the game in portrait mode, I would like the game to support landscape mode as well.

Review Summary

Cut the Rope for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad is a cute, challenging puzzle game that forces you to think using your knowledge of physics and gravity. Through 175 levels spanning over 7 stages, you’ll encounter different obstacles that force you to use your brain to collect stars and still be able to feed candy to the cute little monster named Om Nom. Depending on where you cut the rope, it could mean the candy will fall into On Nom’s mouth or miss it altogether. Regardless, this game is quite a fun yet challenging and addictive game to play.
