Flick Golf Extreme! for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad
Flick Golf Extreme! (iTunes Canada)
We may be nearing the end of summer but there’s no reason not to continue to go outside and enjoy the sun, the fresh air and of course, golf. Last week, I reviewed Flick Golf! a very fun and addictive game which gives you a great feel of being at the course and enjoying the tee off, playing a best shot type of game with the hole nearby. Today, I’ll be reviewing the next stage of this Flick Golf! franchise called Flick Golf Extreme! And, as the name indicates, it’s very much the same Flick Golf! game but taken on a much more extreme level. If you thought Flick Golf! was hard, wait until you try out Flick Golf Extreme!
Your objective is similar to Flick Golf!. You are given a certain time limit in which you can attempt as many times as you’d like to tee off a golf ball into the hole. However, you are allowed only one shot for the hole. There are no putts on the green to finish it off. Where the ball lands and stops is where the score will tally. However, you can try to steer and curve the ball by swiping your finger in the direction you want it to go, while it’s in flight and before it has its third bounce.
Once the ball has bounced three times, you won’t be able to control it anymore and can only watch where it ends up. If your ball lands in the orange area, which is very close to the hole, you will get bonus points for a “bullseye” shot as well as bonus time. If you get the ball in the hole, you’ll get bonus points for a “hole in one” as well as an extra ten seconds added back in your time. If you continue to keep getting great shots, you can continue to keep playing a game and adding to the points for as long as you want.
Once the time is up, you will be shown a screen of your stats. Depending on whether you’ve reached a specified points limit to unlock the next or future levels/locations, you can either play the next level/location or have to try again. The fun part of this game is that there is a certain challenge to make you try harder to unlock new levels/locations and of course, you get to enjoy the graphics and feel like you’re where the game takes you.

Flick Golf Extreme is very similar to the original Flick Golf! game. You are still playing the same best shot or more like best shots game with a time limit. Every great or close shot to the hole can earn you bonus points and extra time, thus allowing you to accumulate more points with the extra time. The difference between Flick Golf! and Flick Golf Extreme! is the location of your hole. Rather than simply having your hole at a golf course, you are now dealing with very unusual places like teeing off from a moving chopper to a hole located on a moving aircraft carrier, or teeing off from a swimming pool atop of one of the buildings in a metropolitan area.
Although the game is very similar, what makes this game much more fun is the crazy locations and the situations in which you are to tee off and the location of the hole. Again, the graphics are amazing as are the sound effects. The sound of a ball hitting on a metal surface as well as the sound of the helicopter propellers and others makes the atmosphere very realistic. Play all these extreme locations that you may have dreamed of playing but never had the stomach for it, all in the safe and comfort of your own home. We can dream, can’t we?

Easy to play
The game is fairly easy to figure out and play, especially if you go through the “Tutorial” screens. However, I don’t recall if the game takes you to the Tutorial screens when you first start the game. I think I stumbled upon the Tutorial screens by going to the Help screen.
How to play screens
If you go into the question mark ? or Help screen, you will be going to their Driving Range, or Tutorial screen. Here there will be pop ups explaining what to do and how to play the ball. You’ll learn about curving or spinning the ball to achieve success.
Amazing graphics
Just like Flick Golf!, Flick Golf Extreme! offers amazing graphics for each location you visit, whether it be at an aircraft carrier, or a waterfall or atop a building. The graphics are stunning enough to be distracting.
Extreme locations
Similar to the previous point on the graphics, the extreme locations in which you find yourself are amazingly beautiful or exciting and scary. Imagine being on a moving military helicopter and teeing off to a hole on a military aircraft carrier. The graphics and effect of the ball hitting on a platform makes it very realistic.
Great sounds effects
While on a military helicopter teeing off to a hole on an aircraft carrier, you can hear the sounds of the propeller, making it a very realistic experience. If your ball bounces off the aircraft carrier, you’ll hear a metallic ping, similar to what you might hear if a golf ball hit the military ship. Or, if you play in the waterfall setting, when the ball hits the water, the soft plop sound makes it sound very realistic.
Trophies and award
You can win certain trophies and awards when playing the game. However, there is no trophy and award collection where you can view all the trophies or awards you’ve won. You can, however be able to view your standings in Game Center and your achievements and accomplishments. I would prefer to be able to view all the awards and trophies in a particular screen so that I can click on and view info on each award.
Facebook integration
The game offers a Facebook button at the top right. Tapping on that Facebook icon button will take you to the Flick Golf Extreme! Facebook page.
Twitter integration
There is also a Twitter button at the top right of the screen. Tap on it and it will take you to the developers, Full Fat Games Twitter page.
Game Center support
The game supports Game Center which normally shows up with the Game Center bar upon the game launch. Also, when viewing your Stats and high scores, you can also view your Game Center standings and other stats.
Volume slider
I always enjoy a game that offers a volume slider for the sounds and music. This game offers a volume slider for the background sounds and the music. Thumbs up here!
Background music playback supported
This game supports background music playback support, so I can play my favorite music while playing the game. This is another big plus for me.
Three games available
You can choose from among the three different games available: Quickshot, World Tour and 5 Ball Challenge.
Offline playing supported
No side or bonus games or upgrades available
Although the game can be fun to play, the idea of teeing off for a best shot to the hole can get a bit boring after a while. I would like to suggest a bonus game that is a bit different from the main game. Perhaps offer a bunker shot to the hole or a shot from the rough to the hole? Or buying stuff from the concession cart. Maybe even a Pro Shop where you can get nicer golf clubs or balls or a golf cart or something to make the game more fun.
No trophy case or room
Although you can achieve or get certain trophies when you reach a certain number of points, you only get to view that when you first win it. There is no trophy case screen or room where you can get an overall glance or view of all the trophies or awards you’ve won. The best and closest to that is the Stats but that’s all numbers. I would like to have a certain trophy or award screen as it would make the gamer feel much better about playing. But that’s my view.
No Contact link
Unfortunately, this game doesn’t offer a contact link to the developers. There is a credits screen which lists the credits for the game development but there’s no email address link or anything.
No bug submit option
I always like a game that offers some kind of bug submission support. Especially when a game is new, there’s a great possibility that the bugs haven’t been found or fixed yet and this is when a bug submit option which offers a quick email to the developer with a log of what happened could be very helpful for both the end user and the developer. Unfortunately, it’s not available for this game.
Not a full 18 hole golf game
This game is not a full 18 hole golf game involving bunker shots, or shots from the rough, but more of a best shot to the hole type of game. Those who are more interested in playing a round of 18 holes type of game would be very disappointed as this game is not like a real 18 hole golf game.
Flick Golf Extreme! is a great sequel to the original Flick Golf! game offering the same game of best shot to the hole with daring and unbelievable locations ranging from teeing off from a moving military helicopter to a hole on an aircraft carrier to teeing off to a hole over a waterfall. The location scenery with the sound effect create a very realistic atmosphere. Choose from three different games: Quickshot, World Tour and 5 Ball Challenge.
