Occupied for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad
What’s one popular thing most of us think about when we’re out whether dining or shopping? Not that! Try again! Yes, at one time or another, you may quite likely be looking for that popular spot. Depending on where you are at the time, the location of your, ahem, preferred destination may be either just around the corner, or worse yet, a long trek. And guess what? Some developer with a sense of humor has decided to create a game out of this type of situation, believe it or not.
Occupied is, as mentioned, a game that takes a light look at the urgent need to find a washroom as quickly as possible. You are provided with the location of the men and ladies’ washroom and your task is to drag the men or women from the line up to their suitable washroom. Yes, that may seem like a very simple and easy task. However, you may find it gets much more challenging as different washrooms become available, the washrooms get switched around and even the electrical aren’t working well. Try to get the correct individual into the correct washroom as quickly as you can. Don’t say I didn’t warn you that it’s very tricky and addictive. So are you ready? Go!

You have to hand it, no pun intended to the developer for coming up with such an interesting idea for a game, making a light-hearted poke at the desperation of an individual finding a washroom. And it’s all in very clean fun as the game involves the individual signs designating the individual whether it be a man, woman, baby, dog, maintenance worker, alien. There are no nude images, no stalls or anything to gross out or offend anyone. You’re just dealing with the very familiar washroom signs we should all know very well.
When you start the game, you are provided with the main screen which offers you some options. You can start the game, go through the tutorial, check out more games, view the game settings, and check your online standings on Open Feint. If you tap on Play game, you’ll be shown a screen showing the game mode options: standard mode or speed mode, and assigning people to washrooms or assigning guns. If you tap on Tutorial, you will be shown a screen that gives you information on how to play the game. It mainly involves dragging the image of an individual to the correct washroom for that individual. The More games will display a screen of the developer’s other games. Tap on any of those games and you’ll be taken to the iTunes app store for quick purchase. To view the game’s settings, tap on the Options and you will be shown a screen offering the option for sound. The option of either enabling or disabling sound is toggled when tapped on. If you tap on the Online, it will load up the Open Feint screen. You can choose to either enable Open Feint, which if enabled will display your scores and standings on Open Feint for this particular game, plus the ability to connect with others on Open Feint. As well, Game Center is also supported, as you will notice the Game Center Welcome bar at the top when you first launch the game.
As simple as the game sounds and starts, you will quickly find out that it isn’t that easy and simple as you thought. The bathrooms get switched around. You are introduced to new individuals who use different bathrooms. The electricals get all haywire. You still try to direct the individuals to the correct bathrooms as quickly as possible or it’s game over if it’s too late and they’ve created a mess.
The quick thinking and quick actions are what makes this game fun and addictive. However, as it can be fun to play for a while, you may find that the game gets boring as you are merely trying to beat your last high score.

Get people quickly into the correct restrooms in this fast paced action game. Try to memorize the changing positions of the signs to score even more and rank up the leaderboard position quickly. As time progresses the game difficulty increases, you have to deal with new categories appearing, moving, changing their positions and even electricity outages. Easy to play
The game is quite easy to play. Even if you didn’t read or view the tutorial page, you could very easily figure out as it’s common sense.
Tutorial page available
Even though the game is very easy to figure out, I like that there’s a tutorial page that shows with brief explanations on how to play the game. Mind you, it’s only ONE screen but that should give you an idea about how easy the game is to figure out. At least the Tutorial page is there, so that I won’t have to complain about it not being there.
Humorous sound effects
The game is hilarious, as you play and eventually, you make a mistake and direct an individual to the wrong washroom. The screaming is hilarious. I was laughing when I was playing it and I still laugh because the sound is that funny.
Clean humor
I like how the developer has approached the idea of washrooms and made it clean. There is no image of a urinal, toilet or anything similar that could offend anyone. We’re simply dealing with those very familiar men and women washroom signs and a few others. Even when it’s game over when you take too long to decide and direct the individual, the “clean” humor involving a mess is presented in an easy to figure out yet non offensive way.
Challenging
Although the game is fairly easy to play, initially, you will find that it gets very challenging as you continue and play along. First, the washrooms get switched around so you’ll have to figure out and re-wire your brain to direct the individuals to the new washroom locations. Plus, there’s new washrooms that show up including those for dogs, aliens, etc. And later, you’ll encounter electrical outages. It’s not so simple anymore.
Enable or disable sound
Although it much more fun to have the sound enabled, you can opt to disable the sound.
Game Center and Open Feint supported
For those who wish to compare your scores with others on social platforms like Game Center and Open Feint, you are in luck. They are both supported.
Background music playback supported
I like being able to play my favorite music while playing the game and this game supports this. Thumbs up!
FREE
I like free and I’m sure that you do too.
No landscape mode support
Although it works much better in portrait mode, I would still like to be given the choice of playing the game in landscape.
No Facebook or Twitter integration
Unfortunately, this game does not support or link to either a Facebook or Twitter page.
no bug submit feature
For me, I would always like to be offered a bug submit feature for any app or game because sometimes, bugs can occur and happen after a new update. Offering this feature would an asset for this or any game or app.
No Contact or About screen
Unfortunately, this game doesn’t offer a direct contact link or about screen that can be accessible while the game is running. However, when loading it for the first time, there is a credit screen with game info that can be considered both the About and Credit screen. However, once the game is running, there is no “i” or other button that can load that page.
No other game, stages, levels
The game is quite simply, the game of directing the individuals to their washrooms. There is no levels, no stages or anything else other than that main game. And even as challenging as it can get, the game can get quite boring very quickly. There needs to be something different that can change focus or distract from the main game.
Here are some suggestions for the game. I am not sure about whether the game already has the wheel accessible washroom (as I haven’t gotten far enough yet), but if there isn’t, I’d like to suggest offering a wheel accessible washroom.
How about offering shower stalls for men and women?
Rather than offering the cleaning personnel a different washroom, why not make it as a “closed for cleaning” type of idea where the washroom can be “closed” and there’s another men and women washroom elsewhere so you’d need to direct them to those instead? Also, perhaps make a washroom be required to be closed for maintenance after a certain number of visitors?
Similar to my previous suggestion, why not also make the washrooms have a maximum number of occupants? So, if say, a washroom can only have a maximum of 10 individuals, that you’d need to redirect individuals to another washroom elsewhere?
Or how about offering coins for each correctly directed individual, which in turn, may be used for upgraded washrooms that can support more individuals, etc.
If such ideas are adopted, perhaps create a map of say, a mall or other public place where you will have to move them through the hallways, concourses, etc to their respective washrooms?
Those are some of my suggestions to make the game more interesting. Of course, I’m sure some of them aren’t that great but they are simply something to think about.
Occupied for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad is a fun, addictive and hilarious game involving the not so funny idea of finding a washroom in a public place. The humor is very clean, down to the implied hints when it’s game over, depending on how you’ve achieved that task. The game gets more interesting and challenging as time goes on, as washrooms are switched around, new washrooms appear and electrical outages occur. For the attractive price of FREE, I can’t really complain. Check out Occupied and see for yourself!
